Looks like an awesome build so far. I hope you hit that 450hp goal, that'll teach the S52 guys a thing or two.

Also, nice addition of the Volvo and Chevy style "redblock" :)

Turbo M42 Build
« Reply #6 on: December 17, 2013, 07:12:37 AM »
After a years of studies and planning having the car with the engine installed but running N/A setup.
I finally decided to turbocharge it during the last 3 months.
Here is my setup for a daily drive car that I'm using now.

 1- M42 Stock internals 1.8L
2- Cometic MLS Head Gasket (0.12) + ARP HeadStuds
3- Highly ported and polished Head
4- Custom Made High Flow Header (42mm Internal Diameter)
5- Custom Made Short Runner Intake
6- 3 inch Butterfly (coming from VR6 Golf Engine)
7- Turbine (Precision 5431E) with the new MFS compressor wheel
8- TurboSmart Wastegate 38mm (with Downpipe screamer)
 9- Magnacore R100 (10mm Spark Wires)
 10- MegaSquirt 2 (Board Version 3 - Fuel & Spark)
11- 3 inch full straight Exhaust
 12- Spec Stage 3+ Clutch
13- RevShift Full race engine mounts
 14- Siemens Deka 630cc Injectors

Here is also a link for the first dyno day with the output I'm running now.
Planning to go for more boost soon as the car still have a potential for more Whp.

Nice work!
What size pistons did you use? Did you change the crank?
Massive turbo manifold!
Must be early e36, no serpentine v belt. I thought all e36 m42 had the v belt. That looks like one out of an e30?

Cheers

I choose to retain the stock intake, as it will flow easily in excess of 500HP, but the longer runner design will kepp the torque numbers nice for city driving. But I came to a problem, as no one makes a billet fuel rail for the stock M42 intake manifold. So we had to build a gig and make a fuel rail ourselves. We actually made 5 just in case other people needed them. The Billet Fuel Rail looks and works great, nice fit. Not sure, but we are considering powder coating it black, not sure, but I think it should be black, made even anodized?  Well here it is:

The Motor did come out of an E30 donor car.
