my low $$$ turbo build
« on: July 01, 2010, 06:22:07 PM »
I just picked up my 91 e30 318is a few months ago traded it for a 97 supercharged miata. So in need of more power didnt want to do the whole m/s50 swap i saw all the turbo builds & how ez it was so i said why not.

parts:

m50 turbo manifold $120
delta fin FMIC 28x7x2.5 2.5 inlets $65
JDM sports t3/t4 $80
Turbonetics raptor bov $80
Prosport boost gauge $50
Autometer a/f gauge $ free
oil lines $50
3" turboback $120
30 lbs injectors from turbo volvo $ free
FMU $ free
Snow Performance water/meth. injection stg. 1 $150
t-bolts clamps, silicone hoses & misc. $150

total build under $1k

custom made adapter for the AFM made by Tony Excel fabrication

oil feed from oil filter cap

turbo to manifold 50* adapter stainless made by Beto @ b-werks

getting piping done

all done i've put about 2k miles no problems yet besides my clutch
so i did the m20 flywheel with sachs h.d. clutch
idles perfect runs strong i have it at 8 psi good numbers on the wide band 14.7 idle 12.3 under boost i bumped it up to 10 psi but leaning out so waiting for my Miller Performance W.A.R. chip
t3/t4, 9 psi., m20 flywheel & Sachs clutch, Snow water/methanol injection, Ireland springs, bilstein sports, ate rotors & hawk pads, AC Schnitzer kit, Recaro seat

Awesome. This is almost exactly what I want from my car. Definitely want to take oil from the filter canister. Interested in the W.A.R. chip too.

Pretty easy to set up the water injection? Did you buy the kit new?

Very nice set-up! and inexpensive as well. Please keep us posted on any further improvements, although it appears that it is nicely dialed-in already. Congrats!

So is all your fueling just being handled by the 30lb injectors and the stock ecu?

Can you give me some insight into how you got your car to run on 30LB injectors by simply swapping out the stockers

Also do you have the part # of the injectors

thanks

He's got an FMU... I'm guessing a vortec unit as they are the most common

yes I just wanted to get the point across that you can't simply swap in 30lb injectors and the ecu magically compensates for them... you have clearly lowered the fuel rail pressure

i havnt touch my fuel pressure other then the fmu ADDING fuel pressure under boost so the ecu will compensate for the amount of air. just to put the point across. everyone running 24 lbs ive seen have been leaning out @7-8 psi
