General Topics / M42 Supersprint Headers?

I think the cheap 4-1 headers on ebay are supersprint copies.  correct me if I'm wrong.

good cause i just picked up a set of t1Rs for my ronals same size

ronal's are a little closer to the strut.  Depending on the true width of the T1R you might need a small spacer up front.

just to keep the intake manifold temp down a little considering I live in Florida.

Yeah, you wouldnt want to bust the welds on your intake manifold.

Nice and subtle too :D

Engine + Driveline / Putting an M42 back together...checklist
« on: December 01, 2007, 02:26:22 PM »
Dont worry about getting a thicker HG.  More compression is a good thing and timing isnt an issue because it can be adjusted at the cam gears.  As long as your machinist didnt face the head past tolerance you'll be fine.

chain tensioner - There is only one part# available.  The M44 tensioner superceded the M42 part
oil check valve - E36 Only
guide and timing gears - if they look fine, dont worry about it. (I would at least replace the chain though)
get rid of those stinking web of coolant hoses - good idea
yank the block out? - I wouldnt.  Raise the motor a few inches so you have some room between the subfrane and the motor.  There are a few bolts hidden inside the bellhousing.  I wouldnt worry about the rear main.  getting the block mated up to the tranny again will be a PITA.

Engine + Driveline / Removing oil pan
« on: December 01, 2007, 02:19:17 PM »
yea, removing/loosening a bunch of stuff is about right. :D

If you are just removing the lower pan it's as simple as removing all the bolts that hold the lower to the upper.  Go take a look at it and it should be obvious.

Engine + Driveline / Startup whine
« on: November 29, 2007, 10:58:37 AM »
It could be a slipping accessory belt.  I always have to tighten my belt when it starts to get colder.

Of course a slipping belt would be more of a squeal than a whine, but onomatopoeia isnt the greatest form of diagnosis. :p

There should be a VIN tag on the back of the engine.  Go to realoem.com and input the last seven digits of the vin.  This will tell you everything..

Engine + Driveline / dual carburated m42?
« on: November 27, 2007, 11:23:50 PM »
I remember seeing a pic of an E36 race car with dual webers.  I also have seen a company in europe that makes a ITB kit ($$$$) and their manifold was DCOE based so it could be a bolt on ordeal.

I think this is a great idea for a track car, not so much for a street car(not to mention it would be illegal in most states).

Have seen the prices of new DCOE's?  Even used they can be pricy.  I sold the setup off my old 2002 for like $1100 a few years ago (45's with all the goodies).

General Topics / BBK with Mini Rotors.
« on: November 17, 2007, 11:18:51 PM »
I just got those dimensions off Brembo.com  They have technical drawings available for most applications.

The face of the hat would be the outer face of the rotor where the wheel meets it.

The clearance problem occurs at the tie rod end.  The corrado rotors are almost touching it

I like my wilwood dynalites alot.  parts are available from the good ol boys at your local circle track shop and there are plenty of pad compounds available at great prices.

if you can get your hands on the mini rotors they might be worth a try.

Here's my brakes
