Shot in the dark concerning an ICV.
« on: June 17, 2009, 09:42:06 PM »
To repeat myself, this is a shot in the dark, but is there a cheaper solution to paying ~$175 for a new ICV--an alternate solution?

Perhaps I just have to face the facts...

I heard a rumor once that someone was taking them apart and fixing them.  Not sure though...let me check.

Spray the innards with carb cleaner...did that to both ICV's in my E30 and in my E36 and it worked wonders.

Unless it''s toast, it will work nicely.

there is a guy on R3V parting out an M42.  You could prob get a decent deal there.  Here's a link.

You can use a 9v battery to test, but I don't recall which pins to test.  It's on here somewhere but I can't find it.

I use to clean it once a year until I found out I had a bigger problem that was causing the idle problem, those damn vacuum hoses.  Ever since I fixed the (many) air leaks my problem never returned and the ICV stays clean.
