The injectors are really close to the intake side buckets,, make sure you're not just hearing injector pulsing.. If it is, maybe try Mustang 19# injectors, or just different injectors

I have a 1993 318i and i hear ticking at higher rpm's but really faint at idle... OK first things first ... im a chevy guy i have worked on chevys all my life till now.. i got this car and it runs good just the noise is killing me.. I know the noise is coming from the valve cover and i took it off and to adjust the valves... but there was no way to adjust them.. (not like old chevy motors)...
im thinking its the lifters but there is this black shroud that covers the rockers and lifters and cam... i wonder if maybe that is hitting a rocker and making that noise??? i was going to just take it out but didnt know if i should ..i think that it makes the oil spill on the cam and lubes it???

i also tryed some of that thick ass oil thats like for motors to stop smokeing and makeing noise but didnt do anything...( and no it wasnt smokeing befor that eather). any one have any good ideas or dose it turn out that im going to have to chase down the noise peace at a time???

thanks joe

Joe, the M42 engine doesn't have rockers. It has hydraulic lifters that actuate the opening and closing of the valve through the camshaft lobes.

A ticking noise in the valvetrain is definently the hydraulic lifters. When the engine is cold they will be louder - this is common on the M42. If that loudness continues when the car is warm, I recommend replacement of all 16hydraulic lifters and draining the oil. I would also use a really good quality oil like Mobil 1 5W50 Fully Synthetic.
