he's just dancing to the music!!

mine does the same thing some times.. think its just when its low on coolant. maybe you need to bleed the system?

When your gauge is moving like that you need to check your ground wires. there is one at the battery and one at the engine just under your headers. i would suggest those first. once you have replaced them if it still does it you have to replace the little memory/computer board behind your service interval light on your gauge panel. Following Me? You can find the memory board at bavarian autosport. http://www.bavauto.com . They sell it for $135. hopefully that solves your problem. It did mine.

I have also heard to try cleaning the contacts behind the cluster.

And yes, Mine does it too.

I found the nut that holds the gauge to the cluster was loose. so before you go buy a new guage and or start to disassembling things I recommend taking th ecluster and look at that nut.

Sidebar question, what's normal operating temperature of a M42? Mine hovers a mm to the right of the middle dash. Noticed yours was to the left of it.

Dancing gauge here too, only mine dances to the right, which was most alarming the first time it did so...a sharp rap on the dash above the gauge calms things, so I suspect a loose nut / connection. Normal reading on the gauge is dead center to just a hair to the left.

When mine is calm, it's always dead center or a bit to the right. Nowhere close to red, though.

Mine just started dancing and even is about halfway to the 3/4 mark for too hot......makes me think about re bleeding it because I've never had a problem in the past month....is it just the guage or should I be worried?

Mine used to be like that also, then I cleaned off the ground nut that holds the gauge in the cluster. Now mine sits right on the middle line or like half a needle width to the right in 100 degree NC weather.
