Progress will be coming, remember to keep an eye on the build thread. Uni is done with now so I can get stuck in. Might get to a point this weekend that i can position the engine in the front cut.

Initial fitment doesn't look great. Will report back further.

I have done some more work. A Standard E36 sump in a car with a standard firewall and a standard cross member won't work! I have sectioned 32mm out of my E36 sump, And have hammered in the firewall about 15mm. The engine is moving back 100mm. I have also rotated it clockwise some.

Plenty of room for a radiator and intercooler out here. The RHS has a socket welded to it, thus locating the front of the crank.

Firewall Clearence, Planning to do similar on the Race car but will go further across the firewall (width of the head)

You can see how much we have rotated the engine by looking at what was a vertical oil filter housing. This will be going in the trash anyway, not to worry.

I haven't taken a shot but there is a shite load of room down the side of the block now. Plenty for the turbo and dump pipe.

Here is a standard sump:

Plan is to cut the blue and yellow pieces out:

The yellow part is then moved backwards (top the left of the picture) And the void in front will be filled with material from my cracked E30 M42 lower sump (same material). The front is going to need a bit of clearencing work (over the cross member and steering rack) because the engine has been rotated. I also need to raise the engine a bit but am waiting on a spare gearbox to check the transmission tunnel clearences.

The sway bar will also be relocated around the front. Not for the faint hearted, but for me I think is worth every little bit of advantage. Everything is moving back, the engine, the oil in the sump, the radiator and all the cooling fluid the intercooler and all the piping. If the car doesn't maintain similar balance to that of a standard 318iS I will be surprised

Well after sectioning 32mm out of the sump, because I'm not allowed to cut and modify the firewall. It would work. But I have decided to go my own way and will be fabricating a sump from scratch. Will have some wings off the sides for extra volume and flaps inside to help with oil surge....keep an eye on my project thread for details.

Hey thanks for the update. You're still re-using the windage tray on your custom sump right? What material do you plan to use?

Also, since lowered e30s normally end up with dented or broken oil pans, maybe you can fix this problem in the process and maybe even sell to the community (though it'll have to be at most the same price as a new e30 oil pan though).

Plan is to make the sump out of steel, its user friendly for me and our equipment. The sump will only be suitable for highly custom setups like my car unfortunately. Engine is back ~100mm and rotated clockwise.

The sump will be a rear sump (behind the crossmember) and will have a wing for extra capacity. To fit the sump, you would need to move your engine back and relocate your sway bar in front of the engine as I am planning to do. I am intending to use the windage tray.

However making up replacement steel sump lowers for the E30 M42 sump could be easy enough. Anyone interested? What do you want, more volume, more ground clearence? Baffles? Obviously shipping is an issue for you guys :p

I didn't realize your setup was that customized.

All of the above with a crank scraper of course. :)

Check out the tranny oil pan of the Range Rover classic in the pic here. The drain plug is at the bottom and is magnetic. Maybe with the additional clearance, a magnetic drain plug can be placed at the bottom without fear of getting clipped..

To use the E36 oil pan in an E30 is just not possible without major mod as the rear portion of the E36 sump will sit exactly where there subframe and the anti roll bar is...
