Won an auction for a real Dinan chip last night, Im going to try and get the car on the dyno for a before and after and also check the a/f.

I think we need to have a bay area meet before Bimmerfest (besides the baybimmerz meet).
I think you need a RyanG splitter for that IS lip.

04-09-07

Got a chance to get on the dyno today. I did two baselines then installed the Dinan chip and ran two runs. While only getting a few more peak wheel horsepower and torque, the mid range picked up in needed places and the air/fuel looks better pretty much 13:1 all the way across the board (the graph says 14 but -1 for cat). This was done on a Dynojet with a wideband at the tailpipe.

The power results are ok but on the road the power feels much smoother and the new revs are great, I'll admit I was discourage when I was on the dyno but the Kool-aid smile poked its head out on the drive home.

Huh, I would have expected a bit more out of a chip. Any idea how the dinan compares to the MarkD?

On the street this a noticeable difference in the power band and the attitude of the motor, I dont have any experience with the MarkD..

From what I hear, the MarkD chip is the way to go. But I have no experience w/ any chip, so yeah...

not really, I just went to a muffler shop and had them but on a stock replacement with a resonator, its still all 2.25 piping.

Are these #'s low far a stock m42? I think my cat leaks so there might be some loss there and my plug wires are still the originals (savin up for the COP).. These make a claimed 140@130 at the crank stock so 121@112 at the wheels should be decent right?

Interesting results. Far from the 10-15hp that is often claimed on these chips. If you are willing to go to the dyno again, I can loan you my MarkD 93 oct chip. But depending on results, I might never get it back.

I would be fine with that, I have two dyno's at my disposal. But the only problem is that I dont have 93 octane around here, and its kinda unfair to compare the Dinan 91 octane mild tune to the MarkD.. 10-15hp at the crank but not to the wheels, but there where some 10hp gains in the mid range.. Ill say it again the car feels better on the street.
