Slowered, Im on vacation here!! The car is back home in a frozen garage!!! Back home in a few days and back to work on the car!!

Canada is home....

Btw..

Only seen 2 e30s since ive been here... disappointing...  :(

Sorry, I keep forgetting you live up here too. Hope that you will show off this car at Tedfest or Bimmercruise once it's complete.

It's starting to warm up a bit but not bikini weather by any standard, for that you will have to go back down to Florida. lol

The car won't be ready this year, barring some miracle, but I already have a "spare" e30 and Im looking into #3.... dont ask, I know I have issues.... ;)

Tgoode318,
Funny thing is, Im a million miles ahead of where I was when I started!! But lately I feel like there is just TOO much to do!! Having this 2nd e30 adds a lot to the workload as I have to take the engine apart to fix the head gasket, remove the m3 rack and pinion, replace it with my old one, remove the interior, replace it.........plus a dozen other things.....

Slowered,
I looked into this TEDfest and Bimmercruise and I think I will attend TEDfest atleast... MTL - TOR is a 5-6hr drive but I think it will be good fun and any of you guys who are closet Canucks on here, let me know, I look forward to meeting you guys... I wont know for sure until late May if I will have that weekend off but I will make sure I do...

It's not really that far, I drove to Montreal a few times just for a proper smoked meat and a night out. A good chance to test out the e30's mechanical.

Both annual shows are excellent and have been for over a decade. I would suggest Tedfest if you're into classics/restorations or Bimmercruise if you like more modern and sophisticated BMW's.

Question for ya, when you picked up these e30's were you more concerned with the mileage and history of the car or the condition. I also want to do a complete restoration, possibly with a new shell and move over all my good parts. Pushing over 250k and the old girls body and motor getting lose, not sure if I can do a second strip-down round with this chassis.

If youre considering a full rebuild then the most important factor is the shell. Rust will cause you the most headaches and a clean shell, in my opinion is the most important consideration.

Mileage, while not irrevelant, is not as important as the condition of the shell. If you are not considering an engine rebuild then obviously you will be more worried about the mileage and condition of the  replacement engine. But again, whats the point of a full resto if you dont rebuild the engine?

If your car has a good shell then keep it and rebuild it. Atleast its a known entity... it can be hard to spot rust when looking over a car while the owner hovers over you..

My 2nd e30 actually has a much better shell than the one ive rebuilt - kinda annoying but I did want some welding to do. I will be much more finicky on my next e30 purchase. Mileage wont be a major factor but the shell will be. I will sell the 2nd e30 in September to make some room in the garage...

Btw,
I already registered for Tedfest. Not sure about Bimmercruise as new Bm's dont interest me....

Hi Norm

Your going to sell a e30, I didn't think you had it in you? :'(

I suppose you need to make room for Ralph's m3 though. ;D

Good luck

Hey Darky!

Good to hear from you!

It was always the plan to sell #2 once Id raided it for all its goodies!!!

I dont feel bad about it at all though, as my brother wants to buy it, so I have no doubt I will be heavily involved in its restoration!!!

Im still holding on to my dream of 2 fully restored e30's in the garage one day... To be honest, Im actively working on finding #3...  ;)

Wonder what the wife is going to say when you bring home the body shell you bought from me. ;D

What? You didn't know about it either? ???

Welcome to the Club. :)

Yes, those of us with the affliction could see where this was going over a year ago.  :)

AWESOME DUDE!!!!!!

If you still have a stock chip in it let me know. I have a Pete McHenry chip (RIP) that will wake that S14 right up!

If you have any questions about it let me know offline.

Good luck with it!

Cheers,
~Ralph

Norm,
The best of luck with it!!

The easy way to tell you have a chip in it without taking the computer out is to go for the redline....in the first 3 gears if you want but first gear will do! Hahaha... IF you don't get past 7,250rpm then it's stock. Most tuners will put a 7,800rpm rev limit.

So glad that you finally got one. You'll never want to get rid of it...LOL

Enjoy!

Cheers,
~Ralph

No.. don't do that!! ;)

I have some work to do on her this month to get her to pass the out-of-province vehicle inspection and then work will resume on the iS.
Honestly my dream was always to open both garage doors and have an e30 M3 and the 318iS both sitting there, ready to go.. Now its up to me to finish the iS and make a dream reality...

I am one lucky b@st*rd....
