Anyone have independent foglights?
« on: November 13, 2006, 01:38:44 PM »
I tried 2 of the methods that were posted without success. I think our '91's have a different wiring scheme. If no one has done it successfully, maybe it's time to break out the multi-meter and have a go at it.

I have them, they work fine. Don't remember how I did it, but the method came off the internet...  which two methods did you try?

I think I saw a DIY on E30 or bmwdiy.com.  BUT, the fuse box had different relays.  I recall one was purple so I didn't attempt it.  I would still like to do the conversion if you guys have or will do it.

This was one of them but I forgot the other one off the top of my head.

Both had you tap into the relays.

OK, I'll have to look at my car, 'cause that is not how I did it - I have my fogs with the highs as well as without the headlights at all.

I'll let you know, but it will probably be a few days before I get to it.

Not yet, as soon as I get my lazy ass to do it I will. Tried the other method and it just left my lights on.
Cheers,

I have always had the modified relay work for me. It did on 2 of my m42s as well as another guy's m42. Excuse the crappy pic - I just took it and I was in a rush.
  • Take the fog relay out
  • Run a wire from prong # 85 to the tab directly infront of it and bend it down as shown in the pic
  • Test it before you solder the wire (excuse my crappy solder - hey it works!!)
  • Plug it back in - Turn the parking lights on & press the fog light switch.
  • Solder the wire upon verifying it works.

I am about 95% sure this is how I did it, and it does work.

Thanks guys. I will try this. I guess the key is to bend the tab which the other mod writeups I've read don't have you do.
