M90 Supercharger to M42!
« on: November 11, 2010, 07:25:55 PM »
well, it's finally done!
M90 supercharger fitted to our little 4 pots.
Goals:
- 7 psi for about 190hp
- keeping it reliable
- buy only what I can't fab.
- keeping the engine clean looking
- keeping it simple

Since I wanted to keep it as simple as possible, I opted for the DASC sytle design

here's the build in pics...

3D manifold

3D intake elbow

fabbed manifold

I didn't want to pay 150$ for a K&N filter with the bracket adapter and wait for the part to arrive in I don't know how long, so I made my own 3" filter bracket for the AFM...

3" aluminum pipe and 1/8" AL plate

Find hole locations and then cut

Fibreglass the peices together through the interior and then once it's dry apply 2 layers on the outside

Then trim and paint!  no picture of part alone...

To keep it simple, I used the power steering pump as the tensioner, but before I dissabled the pump as not to move extra fluid around.

P/S pump apart

Onto the building part!

a common sight to most of you...

I didn't like the idea of a 25lb wight just hanging from the head, so I added an extra steel bracket that bolts right where the alternator bolts on.

Manifold on!

Blower on!

In order to keep it clean looking, and also for space reasons, I tucked all the piping under the manifold and elbow, in the large hole right beside the starter

Rest of the intake on!

For the details
- #40 injectors
- stock internals
- LC-1 WB 02
- bosch bypass valve
- modified rad hose
- 1:1 pulley ratio giving 6 PSI
- estimated 185hp
- no intercooler
- cooler plugs
- 255 lph TRE fuel pump

- Tuned chip by midnight performance (great to work with!:D )

- relocated P/S reservoir
- stock throttle cable and TB
- 3.91 LSD Medium case diff
- 17" rims

was it worth it?    YES! the torque is amasing! a little too much for the stock clutch to handle so it's on the wanted for x-mass list. It's really great to drive around and play with! best of all, it drives really great around town when getting lazy shifting gears. She has a really nice purr at idle however can't hear the charger under load (pulley ratio and loud exaust).

thanks for the comments! The charger is off an early 90's thunderbird acording to eaton, but it seems to be almost brand new! It's still in V-belt but i'm considering going to serpentine in the spring

It runs great! it runs just like if it had no charger and when you step on the gas, it just goes! lots of instant torque, when you want it.

As for the manifolds, I guess i could fab some base ones, but not 100% done since charger bolt pattern and position differs from model to model.

in case anyone was wondering.  it looks like this is an m90 off of a jaguar because of the short snout.

So you're on the stock motronic? All you have is a wideband 02 sensor and a chip? Seems like a better option than a turbo:p, you can find thunderbirds in the junkyard all day.
