WTB/WTT / Re: WTB: 91 318 cylinder head
« on: September 22, 2014, 06:04:31 AM »
I had some trouble locating a good cylinder head for my 91.  I wound up installing a m44 head from a '98, that has been working out real well.  Of course, this will not help if you want to keep it original, but the m44's don't tend to crack as easy and was pretty strait forward to fit.

:o      So I went ahead and ordered it from Bluntech..cheaper than I remembered it being, 137.00 bucks.   Due to the nature of the item, it must be shipped with insurance,  and I needed the clip also.   184.00 total.       aaaaaaaaaaaaaarghh

good luck, been looking for the left side for a while now.   Blunt tech says they have them for sale,  but they want 150 bucks for what amounts to a 5 dollar piece, so as of yet I did not bite the bullet.

looks like a good project,  way to dive into it!    Just,  one thing, keep the abs.  it works great, and taking it out is more trouble than its worth.
Good luck and keep taking the pics.   They are a big help putting it together

Engine management / TRE fuel pump and new issue...
« on: March 09, 2013, 07:37:39 AM »
first off let me admit to having not a clue.   but to make idle conversation,  I have noticed that some guys who are racing with itbs have extra injectors located in the airbox.  maybe,  this is activated at WOT  to alleviate the problem you are having.   just  one possibility

Engine + Driveline / E36 318is Need an engine. Replacement question.
« on: February 02, 2013, 08:47:46 AM »
different years  will work,  but probably not without mods.  the early ones for e-30 use a different ecu and different sensors in the head.  these engines run w/out a knock sensor.  The later ones than yours may work, but there were differences along the way with the belt system and maybe other stuff I am not aware of.   a true plug in motor with no mods at all would probably have to be the same type as yours.

yes,  my car, aka bavarian attention whore/drama queen, has decided to part ways with the original rad,  at just slightly less than 150,000 miles.   It seemed as tho I was going to make it thru the winter without something breaking, but I shoulda known.... anyhow a new rad is not all that expensive or particularly hard to install,  so I should be thankful for that
         anyhow..

Engine + Driveline / hmm me too

my otherwise good running 91 does not seem to like it either when it dips below 20 F.       It will buck a little and otherwise act up until it gets a little warm, then is ok.   My engine would seem to be running on the cool side of normal, it reads normal on the guage but the heat only really kicks when you go down the road.  if you sit in traffic for a few minutes, the heat definitely gets a few degrees cooler.    This all occurs at really cold temps, and the car runs good otherwise.   I have to agree with Dave about winter fuel,  in fact I will go further and say this winter fuel we get just plain sucks.   with all the water, additives and ethanol its a wonder the cars run at all

For Sale / Buyers info
« on: January 17, 2013, 06:32:25 AM »
at first glance,  its a bit too much money but he probly expects a counter offer.   The mods he made are ok if well done,  but are aimed at improving the performance at auto-x.   If you plan to track it, great.  If you want an every day driver, it wont be optimal.  Whether you can put up with that level of harshness every day (w/out air)  will be up to you.  you only need to be honest with yourself.   (i expect to be lied to:eek:)
