New to the M42 Club!

Bought my 1991 318is last month.  Previous owner of a 1984 318i.  Finally decided to join m42club considering I bought the car with a "no compression" engine.  I will post pictures as soon as I can on the current work I am doing.  I removed the head and sent it in to have it checked out.  Sure enough it had two small hairline cracks.  Long story short I went to my local pickyourpart and picked up another engine from a 1995 318i (M42) for under $200 with EVERYTHING else with the engine assembly.

More about the car, it is silver, 5 speed, original basketweaves, black leather interior, power windows.  All pretty basic stuff.  Appears to have been repainted since the paint is near perfect (no fading or anything).  Fairly rust free and in decent overall condition.

Welcome to the 'club!  The car looks great.  The M42 has a bit more torque than the old M10 and a lot of the same high-revving charm, though I'm afraid it doesn't return the same kind of fuel mileage.

Before you put the motor in, be sure to loctite the lower pan bolts & take a good look at the profile gasket.  I'd also be tempted to replace many gaskets if I meant to keep the car for a while (especially that pesky oil filter gasket, leaks all the time).

Yea I ordered a gasket kit.  Everything from the head up.  I might need to get a oil filter housing gasket as well.  My previous car (84 318i) was getting terrible gas mileage ( 20-22 combined) so I think this will deliver a bit better lol.  I also am going to probably run into some issues considering the other engine I will be putting in is from a 1995 318i.  Still an M42, however I am currently changing out the pullies to fit all my old parts (alternator, power steering pump, AC compressor).  Also I will be putting in the original sensors etc so there are no issues with the electronics.  

Any tips will be extremely helpful if someone has done this particular swap before.

I wouldn't 'Might' this. Just do it while the car is torn apart for head gasket.
And don;t forget to replace the o-ring on the housing as well.
