General Topics / Help with rack
« on: November 13, 2011, 09:53:12 PM »
Hi I am helping someone with a leaky rack they brought me a used rack supposed to be from an 87 e30 if bolted up great knuckle went on and then I couldn't get the lower ps hose on this rack had two protruding capped holes near where the ps lines hooked up I've looked at what all e30 racks are supposed to look like and it is identical except for these humps i need to post a pic so you can see. Does this ring a bell what rack do I have or can I re route lines the lower banjo won't sit flush

Engine + Driveline / o2 sensor code
« on: June 17, 2008, 10:22:24 AM »
can a faulty o2 sensor cause a temp gauge to malfunction.  Car runs horribly as temp gauge passes 3/4 then check engine light comes on, push clutch in downshift and gun it check engine light goes off power returns gauge returns to halfway.  Did the pump pedal 5 times to get o2 sensor fault code. Note temp gauge is erratic at times always corresponding with misfire past half point.

idea's??

Engine management / loss of power temp gauge going nuts
« on: March 26, 2008, 09:55:47 AM »
so the car looses power hesitates no throttle response at times .acts like it is starved for fuel or no spark?
This coincides with the temp gauge jumping from half mark to hot or near hot.
Car is not overheating. Power imediatly comes back when the temp gauge drastically returns to normal.  Any ideas  Coolant temp sensor, filter??

General Topics / replacing gauge lights

Ok I've replaced several on other e30's but this is airbag car. I always just pulled the steering wheel the bezel and the piece held on by the two silver nuts. So
do you still have to remove the steering wheel or do you just squeak it out of there with the wheel still on. If removal necs. How??

thanks

Yes the speedo works, the odometer did before i pulled engine. So without a doubt my gears went bad by chance.

thanks

General Topics / lost odometer after engine/tranny pull
« on: November 21, 2007, 02:33:07 PM »
just got the 91 back on the road pulled eng/tranny to do a upper oil pan.
Odometer is only thing not working. It is a sensor in the rear end? i checked it seems tight. Do i have a elect connector in the wrong spot? Funny thing is i've put two different connectors into mass air flow sensor with no change in driveability they are exactly the same type i had forgotten which. Any pics or suggestions where to check

Suspension / thanks weight of car thing
« on: May 20, 2007, 05:49:37 PM »
I know they say after you lube the standard rubber CAB you are supposed to install it quickly and get the weight of the car back on them to let them settle in. So the weight of the car without and engine/trans will do the same. I have a set of stock bushings but will buy the poly if the will work better

Suspension / can you replace control arms/ bushings with engine out
« on: May 20, 2007, 05:18:41 PM »
is it necesary to have the weight of the engine to put in the new control arms and bushings. I would think it would be fine especially if i use the red urethane bushings that allow for twisting of arm.

i have the engine out to replace upper oil pan seems like a good time to do this

So i finally got them out joined with a bit of cursing. The problem with removing them together is that you have to get the tilt just right and without a distubution leveler it is a PITA. I ended up scaring the condenser a bit and bending some sheet metal above to get it out but it can be done. All this said I'm replacing the upper oil pan which is cracked, ive been driving with it epoxied for 3 months.

Does anyone know what the little metal clips are that come out the side of the gearbox, two tiny holes, i lost  in the process

thanks steve

Engine + Driveline / she's fixed
« on: March 18, 2007, 01:18:57 PM »
drove it about ten miles white smoke no more this time, no overheating, no oil/water mixing
i epoxied the crap out of the cracked upper pan and it is barely leaking lol time for tag and insurance. Alignment is horrible but pretty stable at 60mph around a curve it gets a little tricky.:) :) :) :) :) :) :)
