Yeah; I still have to see the car in person and the new photos. I am wondering how long has he owned, what has been done, etc; which may or may not knock down the price. He does state he is not a rush to sell it; so we'll see.

Thanks for the post.

Howdy.. I'm currently looking at a 318is non-sunroof. (CL: http://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/cto/1160112997.html) I already e-mailed the guy and at least he is responsive and open to answering questions with real answers. The car has been resprayed (which he doesn't know if they did the whole car); doesn't know about the rear main seal, but I am awaiting more photos of the car.

My general question (and I did a search both on R3V and M42) is that what are the common problems with the M42 engine; other than the timing chain tensionor, chain, and rear main seal. Do the rod bearings go out (like the S14 engines) or have oil starvation?

Lastly; I understand the market is somewhat off right now; he is asking $3500; is that the normal price for a clean? (I've seen anywhere from $2000 to $5500).

Thanks for the help...

I believe Mark adjusted the timing to be a bit more aggressive with 93 octane.... As far as how much adjustment is in either, I cannot answer.

Engine + Driveline / D'Bilas ITB setup

Anyone in the US would be interested in these? I am thinking about importing one or two... I know there is not a lot of information about these in the states.... and it would be pointless on a stock M42 motor but for someone looking for ITBs, it may be a way to go?

Cheers,
Michael Abrahams

E9,

How old is your rad? Have you cleaned (flushed) it out yet or before? Your coolant temp shouldn't be running that high....

As for an oil cooler, as someone said before, are you able to us the 325is one?

So you want a cage and going to go racing with it? Then you will have to have at least a 6 point... it can be bolted or welded in, though many agree that you should have a weld in cage. You can buy a bolt in cage and just weld it (which will help keep cost down)

I would not run harnesses on the street...

Exterior / M3 Front Bumper/Valence on non-M3 E30?

You can make it fit but it doesn't line up with the E30 fenders..... though with some body work, you can make anything fit..

Do the m42s not have oil coolers?

I have a great love for all E30s. If there was an ETA board, I would join them. But in all honesty, I wouldn't mind owning a 318is. The M42 is a great motor (even though some believe it is not)

Hello all. I hope this forum has great success!

I had three M42 guys e-mail me requesting about a true 93 octane chip for their cars. I just wanted to let you guys know that we are able to get a true (not a tuned 91 octane that *could* run 93) 93 octane chip.

If you are interested in a custom M42 chip, please let us know.

Thanks for looking!
