Trial and Error was the way , but if you go back to the basics its a motor detuned to street level with focus on economy and reliability and one of the features that does that on this excellent engine is the intake manifold , and average gains from a intake manifold would be anywhere from 10-30hp with a tune and some adjustments of the motor (cams) .

The reason i went with ITBs on my turbo set up is to let the motor breathe better and throttle response for drifting and getting rid of that wacky restrictive Intake Manifold .

The old car was a 95 318is (RIP) that i had for 4 years (2yrs Boosted)
And the silver 97 M3 is my current project ,
and yes i sold the whole m3 drivetrain out of that car and dropped the m42 in there with all the other goodies i had from my 318 and then some the car should be done within a month im doing the turbo piping right now and now it will have that ITB manifold with the haltech that i bought of this forum im shooting for 300whp on stock motor and in some time with a built motor 500+whp is my goal this is going to be a circuit/drift car only no street use is intended .

I like the idea but I think you over looked it a bit. why not buy a used headrest from a junkyard that will fit the car and cut it up. That way if you wreak you want have a metal bar stick through your head?

ROFL ^^^^
And that's some serious crap man you would have it all on camera , but that last video is cool and the first 2 vids is like watching fly's f*ck:D

Hi, I'm searching to make a list for what pistons can be used from other cars, for use with turbo or supercharger on our M4x, instead of buying expensive custom pistons.

the list will be something like this.
Code: [Select]

1) OEM M42 block, 84mm

a) from car xxx model yyy
PISTONS: bore xx
compression height:
pin diameter:
RODS:

2) OEM M44 block, 85mm

a) from car xxx model yyy
PISTONS: bore xx
compression height:
pin diameter:
RODS:

3) block overbored to 86mm

a) from car xxx model yyy
PISTONS: bore xx
compression height:
pin diameter:
RODS:

So clear from you mind the template of the list upper. I'll upgrade it when more info will come.

Let's start with options for 86mm bored blocks:

OPTION #1 FOR 86mm BORED BLOCK: AFTERMARKET FORGED PISTONS FOR OPEL C20LET ENGINE
Ludiagsm use 86mm Wossner forged pistons for C20LET, with a 86mm bore block. They have 30,43mm of compression height, and they use a 21x13x55.5mm pin . So this is his setup:

PISTONS: 86mm bore from C20LET
compression height: 30,43mm
pin: 21x13x55,5mm
RODS: 138,8mm from honda K20A, 51,1mm big diameter

But he grinds the engine block 2mm, then he has 1mm clearence between up site of pistons to the top level of engine block. He says that the engine with this setup has a cr of 7,9:1.

So, for not grinding the block, we need
-a piston with 2mm more compression height for fit with that honda short rod.
- or a rod 2mm more lenght with same other specs as honda one.
It's right this theory?

OPTION #2 FOR 86mm BORED BLOCK: OEM FORGED PISTONS FOR OPEL C20XE ENGINE

PISTONS: 86mm bore from C20XE
compression height: 30,43mm
pin: oem opel 21mm

OPTION #3 FOR 86mm BORED BLOCK: AFTERMARKET FORGED PISTONS FOR TOYOTA MR2 TURBO 3s-gte ENGINE
PISTONS: 86mm bore from 3S-GTE
compression height: 35mm
pin: 22mmX14mmx63mm
RODS: NISSAN SR20DET, 136.25mm, 22mm pin diameter
still lot to check about option #3...

this is what I've found this night... here now is night:D

if you find some compatible parts that are oem forged it's better because they can be found used, and they will cost nothing compared to aftermarket brand parts.

I need "Cylinder head combustion chamber volume" and "DECK HEIGHT" from a oem M42 and from M44, please, so I can calculate the static compression ratio with new parts.

that sounds like  a great alternitive to the money problem , all thore pistons and rods are very easy to get and they are cheap

Positive Crankcase Ventilation: where the hose was connected to the manifold i blocked off the hole and then installed a oil catch instead.

The computer is a stand alone one yes.
It was a bit of a pain to get the car running and setup at first but
now its great.

im using a Garrett GT2871R at 20psi
the car makes 213rwkw

WOW thats the most power i ever herd someone made on a m42, if got any pictures of it  please post it up

thats sounds good, but my AFM is right next to the TB and the turbo is blowin through it , and i dont have a place to run the hose from the ICV to after the AFM so the car idles throght the TB screw . How that replacement ECU workin for you ? is it a standalone and what turbo you using and what numbers you puttin down ?

Stock valves.
So what exactly do i need to run megasquirt on my car, i am gonna switch to the e30 m42 manifold.
Was there any complications on your car, did you build it yourself?
Ever consider selling your setup?
thanks

I dont really know too much about MS but i know some people that are running it and it works preatty good for them . That e30 m42 manifold is alot better for perfomance as far as i herd , but in looking at the one from 666Fab.com they make awesome turbo manifolds but they are kinda pricey.  I built the car myself and there are some complications whith the car still but ive go most of them figured out the whole drivetrain is mostly m3 with some custom pieces too like the driveshaft, driveshaft hanger bearing, fidanza lightweight flywheel , UUC Ultrasmooth clutch , good for like 600ft/lb and custom solid motor mount on pass side , but the car still has some problems i cant get the pcv figured out right and the same goes for the IAC motor. but otherwise the car runs hard as hell with about 13.5 1/4 mile time slips and thats with crappy street tires and stock ECU with chip , 255 pump and Rising Rate FPR , plus the turbo spools like 4 grand. and as for selling it i tryed but some of the beemer guys out there dont know a good deal even when its in front of their face so im not sellin this setup to no one , im just trying to squeeze as much as i can out of this 160k motor before i blow it to hell and build up another one.

I use two pises of smt6 , easy to install and tune  i am  satisfied

+1 on your setup , but what modifications did you do to the car wiring and to the smt6 and how easy was it to start the car after you installed it ?

13
Hey all you guys out there that are running boost on your m42 what are you running to control the idle and how is it routed ? and what kind of PCV system are you running , if its stock do you have any picks how you routed the piping to make the stock PCV valve to work ?

For the e34 m5 springs, they are heavier but stiffer same dimensions as e30 m3, so they should be safe to 8000 rpm. I used vacmotorsports.com dual spring retainers, e30 m42 small spring bottom retainers, and a custom made shim/retainer to hold the big spring in place.
Any questions just let me know!

Hey what kinda valves are those stock ? oversize ?
