When relpacing my valve cover gasket I noticed my cam gear (chain gears) teeth were sharp, I know this is quite bad, but wondered How bad, and what I should do to fix it

Is it alright to replace the cam sprokets (sp?), and the timing chain tensioner, and not the chain?

no, the chain stretches to match the gears, and if one is worn, everything is worn. There is also a gear on the crank, which probably matches the sharpness of the cam gears.

The teeth were sharp but not horrid,
would doing an m44 timing chain tensioner be a smart move for now.....

Did you get the 2002 running?

No, don't install the M44 tensioner. It'll just accelerate the wear at this point. Start looking for a swap.

Ive been at school for a bit, unable to finish the project. Thanks for the info on the m44 timing tensioner.

Cool man. I can't wait to see that car up and running.
My understand of the M42 timing gear is that the teeth get sharp because of a stretched chain. There is no permanent solution other than replacing the chain, gears and rails and tensioner all together. Replacing just the tensioner now can push a weak chain over the edge.

I have virtually new cam sprockets and chain for sale if that would help you out. Though, it's a fairly time consuming task.

Barely. Couple hundred miles is my guess. Nice and square at the top of the teeth. I can send photos if you want.

Well, Pelican Parts want $59 + shipping for it; the st(dealer) wants $135!

How about $40 shipped?

I don't have any other parts to spare.

Im thinkin about it,
it is used, and usually you want to break in the chain to the rest of the system: and if Im down there I should probably use new parts anyway.

Order from out of state so you can skip on sales tax. Most vendors should give you free shipping over $50. I think Pelican is in the south bay.
