Need some help from the M42 forum
« on: March 01, 2009, 04:50:07 PM »
1st off, thanks for having this forum.  It has been invaluable for me as I tried to restore my e30 (91 318i).  Probably my 4th BMW but my favorite.  A couple of weeks ago someone rear ended me (too busy talking on the cell phone) and totaled my car  .  Did I mention that she had NO insurance? I walked away (so did my kids) :).  I tell you what, even for a '91, that little e30 can take a heck of a punch!!!!!

I pulled the armrest (sold), IS lip, glove box lock, speakers and wheels.  I am not a mechanic so I cant do too much but I would like to know what other things are easy take off's that may be of value (before I turn the car over to the yard for "storge expenses").

Thanks.
BTW before and after for your viewing pleasure/pain.

I am still in the BMW game just had to go up 8 .

Sorry about your luck.
Where are you located?
If it were me, i would pull the entire driveline, seats, doors, dash, cluster, wheels, trunk (at least the spoiler), fuel pump, and fog lights.

what do you mean "go up 8?"

Voluted is right, its an 01' e38 740il.  Ironically I already had a plane ticket to go get it in SanFran the day after the accident.  The plan was to use it for a DD and baby the E30... oh well.
BTW I'm in Oklahoma.

EVERYTHING mate!

The front valance still looks ok (remove bumper by undoing 2 star hex bolts in the middlish), boot looks ok. Foglights.
Doors, glass (knife), interior (carpets inc. All you need to remove seats is a 17mm socket and bar), steering wheel (22mm socket), stereo? Engine, driveline (prop, gearbox, diff, driveshafts all easy IMO, but then I've got the tools!).

Front shocks (balljoint breaker, 3mm socket/spanner 17mm socket, 19mm socket), rear shocks (13mm and 19mm), rear springs. Calipers? Can be useful...

And lastly, fuel tank!

Yeah, everything is relatively easy mate!
Mildly stripped and dropped 4 door with an M42 fitted!
