It's Cold, It's Winter, How Long Does your M42 take to Warm Up?
« on: January 16, 2009, 02:52:00 PM »
My first winter with the car.

I usually let it warm up for 1-2 minutes each day before driving off.  Shifting around 2.5-3k, it takes about 5-6 minutes after driving off.  So about 6-8minutes each winter day.  It's about 25-35 degrees this month.

I believe I have a bad tstat though.

What about you guys?  State the ambient temps too!

Forever and a day. Remove the clutch fan in the winter. It helps.

During winter mine takes about 3-4 minutes driving after 1min warm up.  During spring/summer usually about 3-4min driving.

how exactly did you do this?  I've got a stuck tstat, and norcal winters aren't that cold lately...   I'm only 1.2 miles fr the freeway, and a 10 mile commute at fwy speeds equals 1/8th on the temp gauge.

Taking off the bolts to the fan is too hard.  I just took off the big nut (1.25"?) that holds on the whole fan assembly.

Just remember the threads are backwards. So righty loosy, lefty tighty. A sqirt of liquid wrench or even WD40 on the thread helps a lot.

Electric fan FTW :). Mine, with the electric fan, takes almost 20 minutes. The fan never comes on in the winter. This is to get to normal summertime operating temps though.

My car takes roughly 8 minutes or so, but the outside temp is around 10 degrees.
