Nothing gripping has happened regards the s/c side of things but I have got the engine running again! Getting a proper iS gearbox so I can use the standard prop, should have one of them soon so hopefuly will get to dive the thing!!!

On the s/c side of things, I have been recommended and been looking into fitting an M42 crank to an M44 engine using M44 rods and pistons. This will lower the comp ratio to around 8.5:1 enabling me to get more power from the charger.

Just a technical suggestion, I noticed your using push fit linies on the oil filter and plate.

All I can say is I've helped put out over a half dozen engine fires caused by push-fit oil lines. (I'm a total track rat. Spend pretty much all my weekends playing with race cars...)

Upgrade to Aeoquipe or Goodrich or some similar high pressure line and swedged fitting!
Or check your lines every event and change them every season!

Hi Dave, thanks for the heads up.  I have since added jubilee clips to them but since then I have made another decision, I am going to cut my losses and do away with the whole system for now. It’s making adding the charger too difficult for my liking.

So The OE filter housing is going back on and I am actually buying Appletree’s bracket off of him. I have made my own mock up from some 10mm ply:

Aside from that I bought myself a 350mm suede steering wheel:

And got the battery in the boot:

And to compliment some rose jointed top mounts I’ve ordered (yet to bloody arrive) I got some stainless reinforcement plates for the rear struts:

Finaly, I have got a new gearbox which I am fitting tonight:

The fun starts here

Well first mile stone reached with the project :) I  finaly drove the thing and completed a track day!  :D (only took me 4 years   ) I sorted out the smokey Joe zaust with a dose of K-seal worked a treat.

The car did really well, I did about 75miles on 20L of fuel. Got the brakes bled up first thing and then spent abit of time just bedding them in. Was a little worried about how loud my exhaust was going to be but was only 88db.

The only problem I had all day was a slight issue with a leaky steering rack seal and a small drip from the engine some where but nothing like a day ruiner!

Any way, piccys  8)

Queing:

The track awaits:

Go time :D

Checking the front brakes:

After lunch a freind arrived:

Back on the trailer to go home:

I take it that is N/A? All good I've been building the turbo for 3 months and I have still reverted to N/A for atleast the first half of this season :).

Photos look good. Get out there and have fun!

It's been a while so thought I'd do an update. Still haven't finished it, time and money haven't allowed me too but hey ho getting there slowly.

Here's what I've been up to:

Front suspension overhaul:

Ball joints look suitably buggered:

Powder coated front strut, new springs and dampers:

Also fitted the eccentric poly bushes to the wishbones along with new ARB brackets:

And poped it all on:

I thought a plumb-in fire extinguisher would be a good idea just incase anything happens, only cost £100 and the car is worth alot more than that (I hope). Que the Lifeline:

Next I've been wanting a new seat for ages and I've finaly got the money for it. I have to put a shamelss plug here for Cobra seats who did me an awesome deal on a Suzuka Pro seat, side frames and E30 specific base frames (although they will need a little modding). Trial fitment:

I also fitted a brake bias valve, I want to make the front brakes work a little harder out on track and this will give me some good adjustment. I used copper lines, I was going to go braided until I got the quote through!! Covered the lines in black spiral wrap so they look nice and neat and also wrapped a few more wires and p-cliped it all down:

I don't have any photo's of it but I bought a Z3 1.9 Short shifter and fitted that the other evening, feels good in the car looking forward to using it on track.

Super charger oil cooler, reservoir and pipework:

Fitted a 4.1 LSD:

S/C pipes:

FPR:

Lightened the S/C bracket:

I bought some Aero Catches to replace the bonnet pins I had. The overall look of them is a million miles from some cheap aluminium pins:

Saving up for an ECU now so see you next year!!

Truly impressive indeed!!!

How do you manage the cooling system i.e., how the fan works, what degree of the thermostat and etc.?

Cheers,
-George

Thank you for the comments.

I have a BMW electric fan thermostat fitted in the side of the rad, I can't remember what temperature it comes on at. It's wired into a relay I mouhted in the engine bay and that powers the fan.

This set up is now for sale if any one is interesed please email me at info 'at' visionracingdevlopments.co.uk

Wow, loving the attention to detail!! Can we get some video's of this little beast running/moving?!

What kind of rotors are you using with those wilwood calipers? I have the same calipers on my car but I have to source corrado rotors and then get the inner bore machined to fit e30 hub...

Thank you.

I'm running the same discs as you on the front. The car hasn't had enough use for me to need to change them yet so I'm not currently aware of an alternative.

No videos of the super charger running as I didn't get that far. The money I need to spend is now going to be better spent along with the money from the super charger sale on some bits to race it.

Ahh gotcha. Bummer. Trying to find a reputable source for the discs... kind of a pain the ass with stuff like this :( The uuc kit makes it easier to get replacement disks... tempted to get that later down the road.

Well keep us posted on the progress man!
