question about abs sysyem 91 is
« on: January 11, 2009, 12:45:20 AM »
i recently put front strut assemblies from my 86 325e into my 91 is, the 91is  had 2 sensors for the abs system in the strut. the struts from the 325e dont have a hole for the sensor, so for now the sensors are zap strapt in the engine bay. i get a stutter in the brake pedal usually when its wet out, never in dry conditions. any ideas? can i remove abs or by-pass

Well, since you have already effectively disabled it by not installing the sensors, you may as well unplug the brain. You can remove the ABS system electronics with a fair amount of labor, but removing the brake pressure modulator valve will require replumbing the brake lines.

My guess would be that the stutter is related to the fact that the rear sensor is still there and the system is sensing slippage, but since it doesn't have any input from the fronts, it is acting flaky. Just a guess, though.

ABS is one of the best features the E30 got twards the end of it's lifespan.
IMHO you should do what is needed to keep it, at least keep it running on the rears.

mmm  i have got used to the tapping on the brake pedal, i had no choice but to turf the last struts, would it be worth trying to mod the new stuts to accept the abs sensor? any more detailed ideas?
