I'm sure some of you have replaced your rear half shafts due to wear, mileage or other...   I need to replace both the L & R shafts due to wear & mileage and want to replace them as complete units.

Where is the best place to purchase either complete new or rebuilt rear half shafts for the 318's?

Almost 118k miles and they are worn (original units).  The passenger side one is blown open at the boot.

I know you can replace just the boots w/ applicable boot kits, but my daily commute is over 114 miles per day and I would much rather replace both R & L units w/ new or new rebuilt.

I was just wondering if there is a good online source, both in quality & price for buying either new or new rebuilt complete units.

Check it for movement and play and if there is nothing abnormal and sounds when driving replace only boots. CV joints wears more on very powerful or fwd cars. I didn't saw BMW halfshaft wich was worn and was making bad sounds.

I did not see how I could only change the boot.
It is possible to change the boot only ?
I know that on other cars you can but it seemed like it was impossible to do on my car.
I have a 1991 BMW 318is.

I've done just the boots, and it is worth the extra money to buy a reman unit. Complete PITA, probably worse than when I changed my clutch on jackstands in the driveway.

On edit: and, FWIW, it's not much more expensive to buy a reman than to buy the boots themselves...
