Rearview Mirror Oooops
« on: September 05, 2008, 09:29:22 PM »
I was replacing the stock mirror with a map light unit, and when I went to twist the old mirror out, the plate that it snaps into (and WAS mounted to the car) popped out.

RealOEM refers to it as a base plate.

How the heck can I get that plate re-mounted? It doesn't just snap back into place; it appears to have been pressed onto the underside of the roof originally.

Anyone else experience this or have any (helpful) thoughts?

Thanks

Tom

I took just the mirror part off, and pulled as much wire out as i could and snapped mirror part on to old knob, and wired it to my cigarette lighter cause its a constant power.

My did not want to come off lol

Sage advice, but alas too late.

Isn't it annoying having a wire hanging there?

That happened to me also...very frustrating. Drilled the rivets out and placed it back in with 3 screws and glue. :) Been working fine for 3 years. :)

Get a mirror from an e46 BMW. You'll get map lights and the amber night illumination. Or I used a 95 Mustang convertible mirror on my e30 convertible. It has map and a dome light built in.  Both glue to the glass instead of using the pop bracket.

Or you could try JB Weld on the bracket. May be strong enough to hold.
