IS it Safe to Use Just a Single Electric Fan?
« on: September 02, 2008, 10:54:41 PM »
I am planning to remove both the AC condensor fan (the black electric fan at the front) as well as the clutch fan and install just a single electric fan for my e36 318is. The purpose is to reduce some weight and parasitic drag. I feel the condensorfan and its bracket causes quite a bit of odstruction to air flow and think it would be best to remove it.

If I am not wrong, cars these days should have just a single electric fan running instead of having 2 fans.

Do you guys think its safe to do so or do E36s strictly need 2 fans to operate?

Thanks!

I have run my E36 on track without any fans at all, no viscous or electric. With stock power it's not a problem unless you need to run engine long time without moving. After around 20-30 mph speed the wind is doing all the cooling and fan is liability.

I did just the opposite. I deleted my clutch fan and just use my aux A/C fan. Even in Florida summer heat the gauge stays at 1/2. And as boyracer said, as long as you are moving no fan at all is necessary.
