Author Topic: NO START after I changed chain tensioner (Read 4500 times)

Yesterday I changed my chain tensioner, to see if the rattling noise would go away. After I finished changing the tensioner, I went to start the car so I can let it idle.. The car did not start, can changing the tensioner cause this. I need help, give me any suggestion...

This would not cause the car not to start.
I assume the car is turning over???
Maybe a loose alternator wire??

did you possibly hit and/or disconnect your main ground wire in the process? I know mine lays dangerously close to the tensioner..

the main ground from the oil pan to the chassis was disconnected when i pulled my oil pan and before i even started the car i noticed my windows wouldnt work.

The car is turning over, yes...but not finishing the process...(thats what I call it) I will check alternator wire and any grounds in the morning and will update.

I have spark, have not tested for fuel. What's the process I know I have to pull off some fuel hose...and have that shit gosh all over the place.

if you have not replaced the fuel filter (DO IT) you can see if any is coming out "after" the fuel filter.

Maybe you hit the cam sensor and broke it when "unloading" the tensioner, assuming you installed the tensioner while it was "loaded" and then "unloaded it with the valve cover off.

For the fuel check I did a delivery rate/pressure check minus the special tools, I just removed the fuel feed line (this has fuel spraying out), then I removed the return line (no fuel spraying out).

If fuel is being fed, then I figured I am getting fuel, let me know if I am wrong.

As for the alternator/ground wiring, I don't see anything loose.

Can changing the tensioner, change the timing and stop engine from starting? Maybe the next step is to take off the upper timing cover and look to see whats happening with the chain, guides, etc.

Well got fuel, got spark...I am guessing I messed something up with the timing..after I installed the tensioner.

Fouled plugs?
Pull and clean, and attempt again.

I figured out the chain keeps slipping and timing goes bad. I open valve cover and TDC the cams, pistons, etc. Put everything back together starts...rev and then slips, soo I am guessing I need to change chain, sprockets guides, and all.
