they have a single mass flywheel instead of the heavy beast in our american cars and no cat i believe. I'm not sure of anything else.

yeah that's pretty much right. Our uk cars had sports check seats as factory, are 2 dr only, generally no cat and no lambda probe, no AC hence m40 f/w,  battery in the front not boot, mtec 1 steering wheel (no airbag), probably a few other things too but can't remember off the top of my head.

Don't forget the cosmetic differences.. IE, bumper impact strips, grill. Oh ya and some of the Euro ones are RHD ;)

I've never seen a cat on a UK e30.

Some european countries which have a high car taxation had their own "special" models. Typical finnish E30 had these "deleted options", so standard E30 M42 looked like this:
No AC
No sunroof
No sport seats
No aluminium wheels, just plastic hubcaps (own special M42 version)
No electric windows
No central locking

Think i must have the best of both worlds then :) 318i (originally), but now with a M42. Means I have no sunroof anyway (lighter shell), no AC (ideal place to mount and run the 'charger), leather interior and Mtech1 steering wheel, electric windows and central locking. My battery IS mounted in the front unfortunately so will have to be relocated to the boot once the 'charger conversion gets underway, but that's a minor detail. Oh, and a full stainless Fritz's exhaust sytem so no CAT..... :)

In italy there are only 3dr 318is e30, powersteering is optional (i think that mine is the lonely in italy with this optional:D), sunroof and AC are also optional, central locking is standard and it seems to be that all 318is came with catalyzator but it is not reported on the circulation paper, so to the law it's like there isn't

LSD is standard
