Many UK E30's had the battery up front for quite some time in fact!

I can't speak for the rest of europe but my spanish is came with the following

-AC
-Power windows
-ABS
-No Cat
-Battery up front
-Bottlecap wheels
-Power mirrors
-Central locking

LSD as far as i know was an option.
