My M42 turbo build
« on: June 15, 2008, 06:19:45 PM »
Hi guys,I started the project 2 month ago and it took me 4 Saturdays working from 8 to 14 ,after that I could take the car out for a little tour around the block.I used an exhaust manifold which was designed for a six cylinder engine (m50,m52....)and to be a bottom mount.I cut the last two cylinder and made an adapter between the manifold and the turbo.I'm using  310 cc injectors ,stock fuel pressure regulator and I managed to control the fuel and spark with emanage blue.I went with 3" downpipe and exhaust ,I'm using a 3" magnaflow muffler and it's not loud at all.I hope I can share some pictures, last time when I  have tried I couldn't.I just tried but I can't share  ,could someone help me with that.

The first two weeks I went with 5psi because I didn't have the emanage hooked up for spark control and then I raised up to 7psi so for the last week I'm going with 7psi.I'm looking forward to dynotest the car but I still have few things to do ,like adding a fuel pump  and to put a bracket  between the exhaust manifold and engine block.I can say that it's a big difference, the car pulls nicely.

I don't know if it's any. If you can't just try hosting them on Imageshack.us or something like that. If that doesn't work email me them (Just PM if you want my email) And I'll host them for you! -Preston

I don't have any work on the engine done yet,but I'll change my pistons and the head bolts ,I will go with a stock head gasket,I'll change the flywheel and the clutch .The setup is:
-Volvo v70 turbo (td04-14) I think,i'm not sure if it's14 or 15
-Ebay exhaust manifold for m50,m52......,which I cut the last two cylinder
-310cc injectors
-emanage blue for spark and fuel
-2.5 inch  IC piping
-volvo 740 turbo's intercooler
-custon 3 inch downpipe and exhaust
If anyone know about how much power a stock clutch can hold ???

Your best bet is to just do an M20 flywheel upgrade, since the clutch is physically larger and the OEM clutch has good torque capacity already.

I'm curious of how you are adapting emanage to suit your tuning needs. The idea of using another elbow added to the cut m50 manifold was something I thought may solve the issue of hitting the strut tower, glad to see it actually is something that works, haha. This is exactly the kind of build I like, low budget but very well thought out. Have any more details regarding the build, I have looked at all of your pictures but some more insight would be great!

speaking of budget, what was the cost of it so far? If you got any wild deals then what would the cost be at average used prices?
