just throwing this out here
« on: April 25, 2008, 08:27:39 PM »
im in the middle of building my m42.  lets get to the point...

my goal is 300 - 350 RHWP.

what im getting
-CP forged pistons (9:1)oversized to 86mm(stock is 85mm) from vacmotorsports
-MLS headgasket (.060 - .080) depends on if and how much my head has to be milled down
-ARP headstuds
-performance / racecoated rod bearings
-machine shop work, already did my home work and got some prices, found a local shop that does awsome work, definetly got good references.  boring my block to match the pistons(86mm = 2.0L?) balancing and polishing my crank, shotpeen my stock rods, mill my head(if needed) and 5 angle valve job ALL for $430
-Metric mechanic turbo cams/beehive springs/titanium keepers.  ive already port/polished my head

im just doing the build first, getting the megasquirt straight and get it running good.  hopefully will be boosted by fall.  then we'll worry about the turbo/fueling/exhaust...     And of course im doing all the other things like waterpump/Tchain/all other gaskets and seals/and sensors.  and i have already purchased a COP kit from rob on here.

thoughts....?    comments.....?

How much boost do you plan to run?  Are you running the stock crank?  Do you plan to up the rev limit?

awsome man!  i also saw someone post an obx mani with dp they got from ebay claming that it was nice...but i just cant trust that.

and i plan on running the stock crank, and upping the limiter a bit, i figure the head can handle it.  and we'll see about the boost, depending on what snail i plan on using.

you picked rods from here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EAGLE-ESP-HBeam-Connecting-Rods-BMW-M40-M42-M44-motor_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33623QQihZ024QQitemZ370013040223QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V

if so they're shorter than stock... are 5.313" (135mm) lenght yours? Stock ones are 140mm.
