Hello Guys, time to present myself and my car :D

I'm Stijn, live in Belgium, almost 22 years old and I'm still a student. I bought my first car almost 2 years ago, in august 2006. It's a diamantschwarz 318is and it had 224 000kms (139 000 miles) on it.

It had some rusty points, the engine wouldn't start, just turned over, the side of the drivers seat was worn, the sunroof broke, the little spoiler on the trunk was torn appart and it was not in such a good shape. But it had no dents :D

I could write a whole story about the car here, perhaps I'll do sometime. It took me a year to get the car welded (can't do that myself). I bought another 318is for a cheap price, swapped engines, because the engine in the first car had bent intake valves due to not looking after the timing chain, I installed drivers seat from my second car, almost fixed the sunroof (it works, for the summer  but it doesn't work very well yet). I installed another dashboard because there were holes drilled in the original one, I cleaned the carpet, actually the whole interior came out of the car. Then I installed electric windows and the little OBC, but I still have to find a temp sensor :p. Another trunk spoiler came on the car, new fuel filter, ... perhaps some things I can't remember anymore.

The original options were:
281 LM-RAD 6 1/2 X 14
300 ZENTRALVERRIEGELUNG ELEKTRISCH
320 MODEL DESIGNATION, DELETION
350 WAERMESCHUTZGLAS GRUEN, RUNDUM
400 SLIDING SUNROOF MANUAL
481 SPORT SEATS F DRIVER/FRONT PASSENGER
520 FOGLIGHTS
680 MANUAL AERIAL
687 RADIO PREPARATION
811 BELGIUM VERSION

I installed

410 FENSTERHEBER, ELEKTRISCH VORN
556 AUSSENTEMPERATURANZEIGE
and since last weekend also 15" BBS

Now time for some pics:

Nice I gotta say between all the colors DS seems to be the most uncommon at least around here in Oregon. I've seen like 2 others. Love the car man! Very factory looking. The wheels look a little Vdub :D
WTB 97+ M3 Front Strut Assembly and 97+ M3 Control Arms (caster is important)

Diamant Schwarz is quite common over here.. But imo one of the best colors for an older BMW. The factory look was someting I was aiming for. Except for the wheels, tinted windows at the back in the future and perhaps i'll drop the car a little, al the rest stays the same. It'll need a respray though.

Anyway, i was having fun last week.. Can't hold this back for you guys :)

do you mean the red picture?

I went playing on the terrain of a stone bakery, where they make red bricks.

thanks all the rest for the nice comments, I appreciate that :D

Today I bought my thirth M42. Think I like these engines :D

Now I have 2 318is, one daily driver, one withouth engine.
3 engines, one with 139 200miles / 224k km's, snapped chain and sitting in the garage, waiting until i do something with it. One in my daily driver that needs a distribution overhaul asap, having 95 600miles / 150k kms and one I bought today with only 48 500miles / 78k km's on the clock!

Well, that's what the seller said, but I found an odometer saying 22K km's / 139 miles lying next to the block, the chain is micro pitted and the cam gears are pretty sharp.

On the other hand, the injectors are really really clean, compared to my other two blocks and also the intake plenum hasn't got that many oil on the walls. The valves look quite clean also.

ps: I luuuv this board :D
ps2: with one of two of these engines I want to reach 200hp, NA.
If i still want to work on M42's after that, another one, with a compressor. Or so :D

This is how it stood on the net.

48 500 Miles according to the seller. I'm in doubt. It was laying there for about 5 to 6 years, he asked a very nice price!

Yesterday, I went to take a look. It layed in a dry barn, between a lot of other car pieces, engines, gearboxes, ..

I'm in doubt if the mileage is correct, this is why:

cons: There was a lot of material laying in the barn, but not so much e30 and e36 material. Next to the blok there was a tacho saying 139 000 Miles. I don't know if you can see it was an M42 tacho, but the tank said 55liters. The seller said he only broke one E30, when I asked where the tacho came from, he said it was from another e30. His colleagues said to me he only had one E30.
The chain gears are pretty sharp and the chain is micro pitted.

pro's: This is how the injectors look:

on my two other engines, the injectors were much more filtier.

The inlet valves. Pretty clean also, don't know how they look on a higher mileage engine. The dirt inside came there due to my stupidity.

The gasket of the cover does not show any leak! On my two other engines and especcialy the 139k miles engine there is a lot of oil coming trough it.

So what do you guys think about the mileage of this engine?

This is how the engine looked after one hour in my hands :D

So what I'm gonna do. Clean the injectors of my 95k miles block, put the injectors of this engine in that block. Do some headwork on this  engine, new gaskets everywhere.. Then I'm going to look after some major power :D

Went to Santa Pod raceway this weekend, managed to do a 16.2 on the quarter mile!

My first run was the best one, managed another one with a booth full of camping gear for 3 persons, 16.5.

Gaz tank was almost completely full all the time. My third to last run my throttle cable came stuck so it kept revving to 3000rpm, second to last run it did it again after i 'fixed' it. Last time I thought i really fixed it, but it kept revving at 5k rpm after I heated the tires (tried to). Didn't want to look after it so launched from 5000 rpm. Result, all the way home with a broken diff, I think I broke a tooth of the cog.

I almost won from a e36 320i cab (was catching up on him), a E28 535i was just 1 car length ahead, but I missed my second gear there. I think quite good results for a completely stock 318is! Quite happy with the results.
