May GRM 318is article PDF
« on: May 08, 2006, 09:36:01 AM »
Here's the article that Grassroots Motorsports did on the 318is. Funniest thing, I've been looking for updates on this project since I read about it in their Nov issue, and I've had this May issue for about a month and didn't realize the 318is article was in it

I was surprised that their Turner chip only netted them 3hp. And if you have a cone filter installed without a heat shield you are losing 5hp

Anyways, here it is:

Yeah, this is cool.  Thanks for posting.

I think I saw that original Nov issue too.  Is that the large write up they did on the E30 M3's and at the end they had a small blurb that said something like "Can't afford an E30 M3?  Try a '91 318is.  We just bought this one for $700."

I think it's cool because it's so true.  These cars have always been considered the "poor man's M3"!

The June edition is out...I was at B&N today and read the article...

I also subscribe to GRM, so I hope that it comes this week.

The article goes into detail about the dasc setup.  Sounds like a pretty easy swap.  You have to get the crank pully from a I think 93 318.

After all was said and down it dynoed at 188hp at 6800 at the wheels compared to the 127 they had before on the same dyno.

This was on an engine with 200+k miles.

Go pick up the article, its a good read.

Damnit, I keep forgeting to check B&N for the new GRM!!

So, in the meantime, can you tell us what this DASC setup is, and what the deal is with the crank pulley???  I can get one of these cheap, but need to know what the dealy-yo is!

Have you gotten the issue?  If so, maybe you can scan it or paraphrase it for us (or at least me).

I'm totally interested in getting 188hp!!!  :D

I got the June issue today....

The DASC, is Downing Atlanta Supercharger.  It is a kit that goes for around $3300 that is made for the e36 cars.

I can scan the article but not for a couple days probally.

It looks like a fairly easy install....probally less than 1 day to install.

At the end of the article they were very very impressed with it and the final outcome.  Downing atlanta also states that they are going to be putting a kit together for the e30 now.

It has a bypass valve so you will still get good milage except when you really stomp on it and then the boost comes in.

I am excited!

If you look at the page right after the article you will notice that it is a Downing Atlanta add. If you look at the bottom of the add, you will see something that will put a very big smile on ur faces.

OH SNAP :D

Hopefully they will be selling this kit for a few years because that is how long it will take to save up the money and get the rest of my car to the point where its fit to have that much power.
