i hope that the next time we find the cams, the camcarriers and the valves... and perhaps the car is liftet up... i need to take pics from underneath..
That would be brilliant, it would be good to see if they made any attempts at flattening the floor or if they have added any bracing..possibly the xbrace.
a question more... it could be beryllium because the car is a late version of the 320 stw...
Yeah it seems most likely that they used Beryllium valve inserts.
It would be nice to be able to run Ti valves with these inserts on a road car, but i think they need replacing quite often. Possibly one of the reasons the s42 had to be rebuilt after every few races.
i have no idea... i lifted up the s42 head.. and then 30min later at home my m42 head and there was a significant difference.. perhaps because the intake and outlets are much more bigger than the stock ones.. saves maybe a couple of gramms and if you count every corner where they grind some material ?!... all in all around 500-600g
or more??
Very good point, every little bit of material adds up. Even if its only a few grams per port it adds up to a large amount.
They might of extrude honed the oil and water ways in the head for a smoother flow, but this process is very time consuming, difficult and can be hit and miss at the best of times.
I remember from a few years ago, when i got to look around a JGTCC GT500
skyline that was at the phoenix park races. The main nissan engineer that came over with the car was telling me that in order to cut down every last bit of weight, they shave the engine block:eek::eek:
They shave bits of metal off the block using air grinder to remove any material that is left over from casting and isnt fundamental to the block's integrity....now thats attention to detail. It also helps when downshifting at high speed. The lighter block doesnt have as much mass to jerk around, so it doesnt unsettle the car when shifting down into a corner.
no, the owner told me that the drysumptank is AROUND the gearbox.. i will post pics when i can see the car from underneath..
AROUND the gearbox? that is crazy, ive never seen that before but i suppose you have to put it where ever you can.
What happens if the flywheel disintegrates? Does it have a shield to protect the oil tank?
