Does anyone have experience with Powerflex bushings install?
« on: January 23, 2008, 01:38:22 AM »
Hi all,

I was trying to install a set of PowerFlex front control arm bushings tonight and ran into a hick up.

As you know, Powerflex FCAB are two piece design. One piece goes onto the CA, and the other piece is pressed into the lollipop, and the two piece are mated together.

I cannot get my lollipop to line back up to its bolt holes after this install! I am confident that both parts of the bushing are fully seated, but it seems like I am still 1/8" - 1/4" out, and the whole bushing set up seems to be too long causing the lollipop bolt holes to line up too far aft.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Am I an idiot? Is it bad tolerances on the part of Powerflex? A bad batch? THey already mislabelled the right bushing for the left and vice versa, so I am not suprised if they totally crapped the bed on this. I cannot find any info regarding similar problem online.

Thanks for any insights..

Regards,

Lincoln

sounds like you mightve switched the lolipops. try pulling the bushings off and swap em back left to right. also, dont forget to lube the bushing and metal with lithium grease..

I had the same problems you are experiencing.  I gave up, tossed the bushings and went with conventional M3 offset bushings.

You have to take a punch, put it through the hole in the bracket and pry it up into place on the body.  It's tight on purpose as urethane is pourous and will deform slightly over time and this prevents slop later.

There are also available OEM centered bushings: code 31129069035 made for later E36 M-power I think.
