so today in class i made a list of all the parts i'd have to order. i will post it here so anyone that has recommendations on what to get, pieces that are complementary or prices that seem wrong, can feel free to help me.

i am canadian so ordering pieces from the states involves paying duties. some parts may be cheaper to buy at a more expensive sale price in canada or on autopartsonlinecanada.com

brembo front drilled rotors
get blanks, they're better and cheaper

oxygen sensor
get a bosche universal for half the price

oil pan lower
why?

sway bar kit bavauto (any good?)
I hear IE swaybars are the best

you will want a skidplate I suggest the 666fab one or the OEM one

performance ignition wires
waste of money, get stock wires or COP

wow u want to do a bunch of shit to ur car .... i found a site called fap99.com it was suggested by someone else on this forum for me to use when i need my brake pads and rotors (mind u they are still sitting in my room)

first go to http://www.fap99.com and type in the part numbers as i give them to you

BMW077027 here is a set of front brake pads they are ceramic and i bought these upon high recommendation but they were not installed yet

oil pan here is $97 http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/PEL_search.cgi?command=show_part_page&please_wait=N&make=BMW&model=BE30§ion=ENGoil&page=2&bookmark=9&part_number=11-13-1-715-266-M61 this is also a great site and i love to use it

for the wires look into doing coil packs its better performance wise and look into the fan delete for a bit of extra power

i have heard numerous of times 15in wheels are the best for and e30 and H&R with billy shocks are very common then do some polly urethane bushings for the suspension another great thing to look into is a m roadster or even a z3 shifter as a short shifter

this other site that is so great to use when buying parts is http://www.realoem.com its mostly for looking for part number and diagrams but u cant buy things off this site but its awesome when working on a car because u can print all different types of diagrams

one other this u might want to look into doing is the repairs that are explained on this thread (i jsut did most of them and it helps a bit but were not needed as much as others might because of my millage but i did it mostly for fun and the adventure) http://m42club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3791 also as i took off the manifold i took it to my auto class and beed blasted the manifold to get rid of all the cosmolean that is put on the BMWs at the factory then just clear coated it and it looks like brand new aluminum (the clear coat is to preserve the look of the aluminum otherwise it would tarnish and look ugly again i plan on doing the same for the valve cover but its a little too cold out lately

i hope some of this has helped u a bit

You may want to put off purchase of any timing chain/timing case-related parts until you pull the valve cover and inspect the sprockets.  If those are worn you'll need to replace them too.  Maybe even one or more of the guides.

Also, not sure which route you're planning to go with regard to the mess under the intake, but whichever one you choose, plan on replacing at least that plastic pipe (which will be brittle and/or rotted), and all hoses under there should be replaced.

i'm taking note of what you said about brembo and the O2 sensor. thanks
the lower oil pan might not be replaced and i have no clue of its condition since i haven't jacked the car since fall. i'd rather include the price.

where can i get the IE swaybars? i don't know any performance oriented web store so if you could direct me towards some good sites i'd appreciate.

i agree, a 666fab skidpad would be a great upgrade for the project. although you said that an OEM would do the job as well. i assume you aren't taking about the plastic one that doesnt even cover the oil pan? is the one you suggest an option or the one for ix? i've never seen a car with it yet

by the way, since the COP and performance wires are the same price i'd rather go COP so i'll probably be ordering a bracket plate from you if you're still in the business. what would be you're shipped to H9S 2G1 Canada? (i wont be needing it before april so i can wait a for you to machine another batch.

thanks for your input

you can order the bars from Ireland Engineering

http://www.bmw2002.com/

the skidplate is a factory option click

I have more plates just let me know when you need one.

I'm sure shipping won't be much more.  I typically sell for $82 USD  So to Canada would probably be less than $90

15inches are what i will be looking for. either a 5 spokes or a rally type wheel either white or graphite color. something like the compomotive MO1562 or TH3-1565

the Z3 shifter won't be part of my project. shifting is something i like about driving and spending more time traveling the knob around isn't a disadvantage yet but thanks for the idea.

the polishing of intake ports/intake is certainly something interesting and my concern about the clear coat that you're talking about is that when it will start to flake the pain will go straight on the valve and might create much chemical deposits so i'm not sure about what kind of clear coat to use or if a clear coat is needed since the intake and head are made of aluminum which doesn't rusts.

you might like the X5 shifter than, it is still short throw, but it move the shifter higher, closer to the steering wheel.

haledj, thanks for your quick reply. the fab666 is half the price and more appealing so i'd rather go that route. i will let you know when i'm ready to buy the plate.
cheers!
so you're faster than me hein! i will look at X5 shifters. although i don't have unlimited funds either so this mod is going to wait until the rest is done
thank you

i will do so. i'm thinking the worst could happen when i open the engine so i'm ready to install new sprockets/guides if needed. i don't want to have to open the engine often. the car has to be relatively reliable for another 100k. as of now it has only 153 000km (95 000miles) so they might still be good. who knows. i hear a little metallic ticking sound though thats becoming more and more noticeable especially when cold.

the mess under the intake will go. i want to remove the throttle heater plate since this is going to be a summer car once i'm done with the restoration and  the one thing i appreciate about cars is when the engine bay is clean, clear and easy access so that mess has to be sorted out and organized/restored

other projects that haven't been listed since they demand more time than money and parts

-painting the intake manifold and head cover flat black with the groves sanded to silver
-a little 1/4'' flexible and clear plastic tube will run from the extinguisher to the engine bay (directed to the injectors and to the exhaust manifold) so it can be acuated from inside the car (if ever there's a fire, opening the hood allows the fire to breath and amplify since it creates a chimney effect) i hope to never use that mod
-powersteering delete (the pump and lines are leaking anyways)
-a/c delete (i live in canada) i'm halfway there: the rad, aux fan, hoses in the engine bay and pump are gone. theres only the ones under the dash left.
-painting the abs steel lines in engine bay
-changing all vacuum hoses and clamps
-some weight reduction: i'm still debating if i want to keep the stained carpet. i would have to replace it with something for the feet to rest on. (ideas??)
-new wiper linkage from a salvage yard and a new hood/freshly painted mirrors
-change all the fluids

some parts that add up to the previous list will be:
-head cover gasket
-head gasket
-intake gasket
-IS lip

That's a serious list of replacement parts, I look forward to some updates on your project.

Good luck!
