Supertourer regs were for specific series, eg DTM, BTCC, STW, TOCA. Here are the
Supertourer Regs. I understand there are homologation papers for individual models, and the tech regs allow for the mods. I do not think the papers homologate 'hot bits' in the usual sense. For example, when BMW wanted to run the 4 door 318iS, there was an initial run of 2500 produced to homologate the 4 door sedan bodyshell with 16 valve engine. I think Boyracer in this forum has one of these.
I have no idea where the homologaton papers would be available from by the local associations such as the BTCC.
Reg 4.2.1 allows teams to run the specially developed race engines, rather than soup up the base engine they shove out to customers. As we know, the BMW Supertourer race engine is the S42 which is based on the standard M42 engine in the 318iS. It is a BMW Motorsport only engine that was never offered in a production model unlike the S14 in the E30 M3. It is also why BMW was able to use the S14 in the E36 chassis.

4.2.1) The engine must be of the same make as the car and must be homologated by the FIA in Super Touring.
