is it normal to feel the clutch pulsating while shifting gears?  could this be a sign of a bad clutch slave cylinder or bad motor mounts?

car shifts into gears smoothly, without any slippage.

I'd guess maybe one of your tranny mounts? not really sure though im thinkin it might be one of them not being bolted on

Could also be that the pressure plate fingers may be failing. Had this happen on a pickup.

I would check the engine and trans mounts and if they are good, start planning on a clutch job. Even if it is only the T/O bearing, do the entire clutch while you are there.

When i got my car the guy told me the clutch was bad. Turned out it was the hole tranny. I had about 25% left on the clutch disc so i replaced EVERYTHING anyway. New clutch really made me happy, i am glad i didnt put it off

has anyone replaced their clutch themselves?  I haven't really been under the e30 much, so im not sure how difficult it is to reach some of the bellhousing bolts....it's an absolute pain on my nissan.

I have done it recently on my M42 and the hardest bolts to get out was the ones from behind the bell housing that holds the starter in. They have a nut on one side so i had to tag team it to get it out

As for checking the engine mounts, how far should the upper pan be fromt he steering rack? I can move the engine my pushing on the upper intake, and it makes a bit of a thunking noise.

If the pedal is pulsating it is probably either the T/O Brng or the Pressure plate...
It would be nuts to pull the trans and only replace one or the other though so...
We say you need a clutch

yep, mine is squeaking now. I wonder how long I have! Replacing the clutch/bearings on wednesday. It's amazing how long you can go with a bad clutch.

I've read a few posts about installing a lightened M20 flywheel. Oddly enough there just happens to be a lightened/balanced M20 wheel at the shop as we speak.

I wish I had time to get the clutch balanced, but oh well.
