This is why i put in the 3.64. 80mph at 3300 rpm is much easier on the ear drums and the car is quicker to 60. I wouldn't even think of doing a road trip in this car with the 4.1. By the way do you have a convertible? 4.27 gears.

How is it quicker to 60 if the ratio is longer? Wouldn't it take longer to get 60?

I would imagine that a 4.27 would get you to 60 quicker because of the shorter ratio...

Correct me if I'm wrong

sorta depends... 4.27 might mean you have an extra shift to 60

With a 4.1 you have to shift to third gear at 54mph. With the 3.64 third comes in at 61mph. The specific 0-60 time is irrelevant to me but I like having the more flexible gear ratios. On the local mountain roads I find it much easier to drive quickly in second gear as opposed to constantly shifting to third whenever I get close to 50mph.

I see what you mean now...I've been thinking about getting a longer ratio for mine as well.

However, I have the chip and that means I can rev just a wee bit higher, I think I can hit 60 in 2nd...I'll check later today :)

Definitely agreed on the mountain roads bit, I hate shifting up to third and then quickly going to back down to 2nd.

What kind of mileage are you getting btw?

Use a GPS device to calibrate you speedometer. When my Garmin says 60mph, the speedometer is reading closer to 66mph. Theres a fixed 5mph error in the speedometer, plus 1-2% from the tire size or factory calibration.

26-28 most tanks with lots of spirited driving. I don't think there is a dramatic difference in fuel economy between the two ratios. Keep in mind that im running manual steering and electric cooling fan. If you aren't really concerned about highway cruising, you might be better served by a 3.91 or 3.73 especially if you plan to chip it to 7000+ rpm. For me the reduction in noise alone was enough to justify the swap.

3rd gear + 4.1 is too tall for my tastes at those speeds especially up hill.

Yeh 3.91 is more suited to my driving.

I already have the chip installed along with the m20 flywheel conversion.

The duo make this car great to drive.
