However, I have the chip and that means I can rev just a wee bit higher, I think I can hit 60 in 2nd...I'll check later today
Use a GPS device to calibrate you speedometer. When my Garmin says 60mph, the speedometer is reading closer to 66mph. Theres a fixed 5mph error in the speedometer, plus 1-2% from the tire size or factory calibration.
What kind of mileage are you getting btw?
26-28 most tanks with lots of spirited driving. I don't think there is a dramatic difference in fuel economy between the two ratios. Keep in mind that im running manual steering and electric cooling fan. If you aren't really concerned about highway cruising, you might be better served by a 3.91 or 3.73 especially if you plan to chip it to 7000+ rpm. For me the reduction in noise alone was enough to justify the swap.
When i run S curves in my lil M42. I have 4.10 LSD and i never leave 3rd gear.. 30mph-65mph
3rd gear + 4.1 is too tall for my tastes at those speeds especially up hill.
