Is the M47 crank a direct drop in or do you have to make any modifications to make it fit in the M42?
Thanks

ive never done the swap myself, but i know some machining is required. Pretty simple from what i have read.

the crank requires some adjustments... about .5 to 1mm shaved off the end, and a woodruff cut into the end to hold the timing gear...

That engine is so clean it looks brand new. Your attention to detail is impressive. Take lots of pics before it gets dirty! :)

Gosh, that's beautiful.  Almost brings a tear to the eye.  ;)

What displacement is it?

Sorry for long waiting time...
But at last I´ve got the engine at a dyno, it made 177 horsepower and 210 Newton.
Have made approx. 5000 kilometers on it now and it still runs smoth.....

Nice numbers--I'm sure you're enjoying the new power.  Which Shrick cams did you use?

Hi Lund8200, great numbers!!
I have now finished my build up with basically your same setup except for M3 pistons (321hp, S52) And mine has 11,5:1 CR
What ECU are you using? injectors?
How is your idle with the schricks on your engine? I also have schricks, but I have not mounted them yet, for the run-in period I´ll use the stock ones.
One more thing, are those wheel or crank numbers?

Im using the stock ECU and injectors from a SAAB 900 turbo, approx. 200 cc/min.
The ECU needed some changes in the parameters, but it could run with standard settings.
The first/lowest curves shows before changes where made in the ECU.
My idle are sat a bit too high, around 1000 rpm, it could easily be dropped to 900 instead and still run smoth. (Next projekt)
These are crank numbers, you would properly get higher numbers with the higher compression ratio.
Good luck with you projekt!

Great post,
great numbers.
im going to go DASC on my car, do you have figures of the stock injectors vs. the Saab ones?
did it require any modifications in the fuel rail to fit the Saab injectors?

thanks

Hi guy, I am just back to tell you that the car is still going strong, now is has run approx. 15.000 km. with no problems at all!
Only thing that could be better is the idle, it´s a bit rough. Wondering if altering the timing of the camshaft would smooth out the idle?
Its feels like it sometimes misses a firing, has tried different plugs and new cables, last try is the coils.

It's been a while. I've only seen this thread today and I'm inspired by it. Any updates on that idle projekt and the engine performance?
