It will be hard work but really enlightening.  There are a few pretty hotshit Audis.  Fastest I ever drove (continuously) was in an original Quatro in 85.  On the Autobahn just whishing along at a steady 200 klicks just E.  Z

Congrats.

more like 70k upwards toping out at 90k if you are very lucky and know your shit!.....this is also if you live in a big city, i know this because i used to be an audi/vw tech. our master tech was making 67k at the time, which is pretty good for a tech if you ask me.

i dont know where people are learning of techs making more than 100k?

ps, get used to doing 8 hour timing belt jobs:) , the whole front end has to be removed, oh and the V6 twin turbos go bad at 60k and the motor has to be removed......it pays good if your making flat rate W/ bonuses:) . just my 2 pennies.

Fun fun fun fun..... Maybe i'll work for audi for a while, then reapply to STEP LOL naw, I think it'll be a great experience,, I can't wait to get my hands on em!!!
Yeah the 150k figure came from the mouth of the Audi recruiter, and he was talking about an audi/porsche dealership right in exton PA where the academy is.. I guess i'll find out :) I'm still good with 67k a year :D

I have been a pro mechanic for 12 years. Started on VW and did Audi for a while as well. I am now working on Ferrari, Maserati, and lotus. On a few week ends I am the crew cheif on a Ferrari ALMS team based hear at home. My point is the training I got from VW laid the foundation for the indepth understanding of every European Bosch system used on every thing from VW to Ferrari.

Congrats your accomplishment brings back memories of my start. I drive a BMW and my wife drives a Honda but VW/Audi paid my bills.

congrats on the acceptance but it sounds like John Meade feed you a little bit of BS. I am here attending the program right now I graduate on July 6th and i haven't seen or heard about this dealership in Exton. It could be in Philly? When do you start? I wouldn't go with the housing they offer its pretty shitty. Also be prepared ahead of time for the placement, its stressful. There are something like 150-200 people that go through the program a year and right now there are only 21 open positions in the US. Be prepared to relocate. Oh and 67k a year is definitely not starting rate 15-17 is the norm starting out, but it is still better than a lot of people I graduated with from NTI are getting. You will love Audi's they do some crazy shit but we dont get to work on the RS4:mad: .

If you started earlier, you probably would've been richer now. All I know is my Audi 4000s back in '87 was breaking down left and right and eventually ended up selling it after I paid more in repairs than the car. I heard the early bosch injection systems were really bad. In hindsight, I wish I would've just swapped in the GTI motor and have it run just a little bit better.

Congrats. At least you'll be able to find a job more easily when you get out considering the poor reliability track record of Audi/VW's.

Hey that's not a fair statement. The cars that are unreliable are those dinky 1.8T engines that kids mod the hell out of then flog the crap out of, butcher wiring harnesses for ICE, etc then they piss and moan on forums about how Audis suck, etc.

I've got a 2000 A4 AQMS 2.8 and it's been super reliable. It's got 115K on it now. I've only done a couple of mods to it (short shift, APR snub mount, wheels/tires) but considering the fact that its a very complicated car, it has been very reliable. Maintenance is the key.

No, I actually know several friends and family members that have all had problems with all motor combinations. Not so much with the motor but with all the electrics surrounding them. It seems like there's no middle ground on these cars. They either go bust or are super reliable. I've met 15% of the people in my lifetime that has had great luck with these cars and absolutely no issues, but that's a healthy minority.

It does seem however that the '98-2001 2.8 were pretty decent with my friends as well in terms of reliability.

Don't even get me started on that. I rode in a RS4 on a very short auto-x circuit with a pro driver last summer. I was under the impression that I was going to drive it.

Audi made a HUGE mistake on their website for the Audi event that told anyone that attended could drive the RS4. They renigged on this and you could only get a ride in it with a pro driver driving it around 8/10's around a shortened auto-x course. Best I would do is get to pick one of the non S cars. I picked the 3.2 S-line Audi A3 DSG and ran the course. Of course they say you can push it but they always end up yelling at you if you really push it like normal auto-xers.

The Audi Lifestyle events are really great to go to if you have to bring your gf or wife.
Last year they had a lot of gourmet dishes, cooking classes by the top chefs, liquor and wine, massages, internet access, home stereo demo, Leman's R8 car, the $5800 optional Bang and Olfusan demo, New Q7 test drive, etc. ALL FREE. ;)

i had a B6 (2003) A4 1.8t quattro for a few years.  It was all reliable except for the coil packs which were known problems (service bulletins).  But other than that, it was pretty reliable.

For the record - Audi 1.8t's come FWD and AWD.

i used to work on them and i agree with you 100%, stuff breaks on them that normally doesnt break on "normal" cars.......like i said being an audi tech is great job security!

a minor nit... all USA B5 avants were delivered with Quattro. No such thing as a B5 FWD Avant in the USA.
