Oil Filter Adapter
« on: February 13, 2007, 05:03:05 PM »
When I bought my car it had a HUGE oil leak about two pancakes and a  50cent peice in size. I knew this had to be fixed. Some one said that the oil filter adapter leaks so I went  track the problem.

My dad and I thought it was comming from the adapter but we weren't very sure. We took off the alternator and the mount (that pic was after whe took off everything) and pulled off the alternator bracket make sure that you pull the bolt off in between the bushings Shown below.

Once we had everything off we could see a trail of clean metal where we thought the oil was running.

We replaced the gaskets from the oil filter housing and sandblasted it.

We reassembled the whole thing and it worked. It only leaked about a drop(probly from the oil that stayed on the engine) but now it doesnt leak a drop of oil anywhere! We fixed it my dad couldn't believe his eyes. We replaced #'s 8,9,12

If you don't know, Realoem.com is the parts manual for all BMW's old and new. Its a great reference online.
I also got an apperance upgrade. I asked my dad for a euro plate, he flies too Europe all the time, So he asked the Peugeot in Crawley UK for a plate. No Freebies, but a personlized plate in two minuets for 11.25£ ($22.50) He didn't know what to put on the plate but rembered my user name. So now I've got a euro plate.

Thats about all for now, Enjoy!

Nice job. I had to replace the timing case gasket on mine because it was dripping oil badly. Your oil filter case looks brand new!

Could you tell what path the oil travels through this piece? I've been curious about this as it could help in installing an oil cooler.

I not too long ago..maybe 2 weeks ago had to replace the oil pressure sensor. i couldnt figure out how the hell to get it out, i used a ratchet that barely fit and got the old one loose and i didnt wana break the new one and turns out against what i thought a closed end 12pt wrench fit it best, its nice not seeing the oil pressure warning and smelling burning oil!

We don't really know the flow of the oil. Are their bolt on kits (oil cooler)avaible, where, who, and how much? Or are you making one from scratch?

The first e-bay link seems to be an interesting option! The dimensions are hard to eyeball based on the images depicted with the one on the right looking like what would work for our cars....

fabricated oil filter cap with adapter for oil cooler , oil cooler from ebay , oil thermostat from ebay..

victory car is too match cost for me ( the shipping cost is greater than tha buying cost ) so i had to find a someone to fabricate one from scratch in my town...

he did a great job , for only 70 euro.. while victory wants for almost the same job 255 $ (195 euro )

he has also added holes for oil pressure and oil temp sensors ( i have added autogauge oil press and oil temp ).
steer with the rear !!!

Yup our small high compression motors aren't really the coolest. The m20b25 and s14 series all come with oil coolers stock from the factory. If you just use your car for daily usage without a lot of stop and go traffic and constant flogging, it's ok. The moment you get on the track in very hot climates, it helps to keep the engine cooler for longer life.
