Does anyone know how much boost a Stock M42 can handle if tuned correctly?  I’m currently running ~12 PSI on a stock motor should I try for more?

I know someone who ran 20 psi on stock internals....aslong as the compression is lowered, the crank, rods, pistons can take it.

What are you running

for an intercooler, how are you cooling the motor  and how are you adjusting fuel flow? I'm not an expert on this but I had my 75 Turbo rebuilt by Korman and learned a great deal in the process. My first recommendation is to read Corky Bell's "Maximum Boost". Your enemy in turbocharging is lean running, overheating and detonation.

Add an oil cooler. On my motor Mr Bell suggested adding teh E36 piston skirt oil spray system while the lower end was being done. Increase the size of the oil pan. Mr Bell also says that an intercooler is not "icing on the cake, it is more cake". I moved the battery to the trunk and added a samll IC. I'm only running 8.5# and 6.9:1 cr. About 200 low rpm hp. At that boost level, your car must be fast fast fast! Where does you boost come in and about where does the power band run out?

damn, i am so tempted to go turbo.

im currently in the process of building a stroker..but a turbo would be just sooo much fun!

Hey Shocker, would you mind posting up a pic of your setup?

How much have you spent to bring the motor to where it is now?

I'm running a twin screw supercharger on a v belt (everyone said it would slip but I’m running a industrial style v belt that can handle the enormous tension I put on it) currently at 12psi don’t have any dyno numbers yet but soon.  I have ~ $3000 into the S/C set up with a split second FTC1 for Fuel and timing.  I’m guessing around 220-250 WHP.  I’ll have pictures in spring time when I get my car out of storage.

Please I want more details... pics needed, I want to see how you have fitted the supercharger. Do you have removed the intake manifold? Are you using one belt or you have another pulley and another belt only for supercharger?
The engine internals are stock?

EDIT:
wasn't this your car?

If so you have a eaton M62 (roots style, not twin screw).

I need to know all of what are you using for fueling:
-your FPR is stock, or you have a RRFPR?
- your ECU is stock?
- split second FTC1 was with the midnight autowerks "kit"?
thank you

For the pic above: stock afm/tb = bottle neck? I guess it would depend on boost.

Yeah that’s my car but now it doesn’t look anything like that I did a MAF conversion, the air filter is behind the bumper so its alot cleaner.  The motor is all stock, the supercharger runs off the P/S belt and the manifold is the bottom portion with a plate welded on it.  Also Roots style and twin screw aren’t they the same they both have two rotors that one spins clock wise and the other counter clock wise????

Here are differences between roots style(Eaton) and Twin-screw(like whipple):

You should take some measurments of the mounting bracket and make a contribution to the M42 society. :D

Nice system btw. Care to comment on how it runs?

I gonna ask a similar question that Shocker did. Any rough ideas how much boost can be safely pushed on a bone stock M42? I mean stock compression ratio, internals, and on the motronic. I'm guessing 5....6 lbs?

with poor tuning 5-6psi will be pushing it.  With a proper tune, 1bar shouldnt be a problem IMO

How many supercharging options are there out there for our M42 cars besides the Downing/Atlanta?  And what are their prices?
