Due to the absence of Redline up here in ND I was told to forget about it and go Royal Purple.  As dumb as it sounds, I could feel a difference compared to the nearly sludgy crap in my engine before a few hours ago.  Anywho, just thought I would put down a few Redliners out there.

To my knowledge the natural color of refined oil is amber, and i've never seen high end oils being colored before...

To me it looks like a TV Shop kind of product, that might also have a sales stand at the local performance shop with a continious looping VHS marketing video driving the employees mad.. :-)

You don't need to change your oil every 3000 miles, just your filter. There is scientific evidence on the internet of two NYC taxis. One had oil changed every 3000 miles normally, and one did not have any oil changed for 50k (just the filter/top off). They tore apart the engines and the wear/clearances were exactly the same.

Cost me 38$ for 5 quarts.  The only reason I changed it was because:

When its near -40 degrees out 5w30 does a lot better than straight 30 weight, and the oil kept on foaming up as well so I also changed the filter.

I cannot believe what I am reading.  Ask a petrochemist sometime if "oil is oil is oil"  You'll get a hour long dissertation quite to the contrary.  I first tried RoyalPurple in a Porsche 944 Turbo S which was already faster than stink to begin with.  I, in all honesty, could feel a seat-of-the-pants difference.  I also know several seasoned Formula Ford and Vee pilots that swear by the stuff.  Call me what you want, I will use nothing else.  Who cares if it's  $8+ / quart.  I prefer to supply my car with the best I can provide (in my opinion.)

You failed to miss my point. I'm not going into a chemistry debate or trying to tyrannically tell you what oil to use. You use what you want, when you want, and how you want. You're still a consumer whore. We all drive cars, but how much you waste is up to you.

BTW, how do you give an hour long dissertation? IIRC dissertations are written.

Just because you know Formula Ford/Vee pilots does not make them an authority on the chemistry of petroleum.

I just stick with the Mobil 1 synth.  I cannot justify $8/qt myself.

A few years ago I stopped changing every 3000 miles after reading some research saying that that causes more engine wear or something to that effect due to a "break-in" period on the oil.  Presently, I do it every 5000, but it still seems unnecessary.  There is this "high endurance" synthetic now that says to change every 15000 miles.  I would bet it is all the same crap, but they have the market convinced that you will ruin your motor if you do not put new stuff in every 3000/5000 miles with the non-"high endurance" mixes.

How about we get some real scientific research in here?  I would LOVE to not have to change my oil so damn often.  I have no problem doing the filter, but all that oil seems like a waste.  I recycle it, but I still doubt that it goes anywhere GOOD.  I am all-in for helping out the environment.

Interesting... Somewhere on the internet i read that honda's don't require oil. Does this also make that true?

The knowledge you pretend to bestow upon us is worthless. Until someone with some sort of education on the topic chimes in to agree with you i would not take so much as a word of your advice. There is a great difference between the wear effects on a motor using mineral oil and a good synthetic oil. whether or not royal purple is worth the extra money, i doubt extra money spent is worth the minimal benefits to be had over using Redline or Mobil 1.

Another totally subjective and non scientific observation here but I noticed the same thing too on my Acura motor when I was trying out different oils(redline,mobil1, and royal purple) within 2 months time period for all 3 oils.

Would I buy it again for any car? Probably not. If I had a dedicated race car with an expensive built motor then I wouldn't hesitate to use it though...

Just letting people know that Royal Purple isn't hype and actually works as good if not slightly better than the competition. Do you really need to use it? Probably not.
