Did you ever figure out the manifold?  The factory maifold may work, but the flange will have to be drilled out, etc.  In my case, I'm looking at making a maifold that sits the turbo about 2" further forward then needed.  Eventually I'll be moving the engine back the same 2" and the shock stock is in the way.

I got the COP conversion done yesterday and I should be getting a manifold for a turbo m50 soon.  I think thats going to be the best bet since they are tubular and it will be easy to modify it to fit our engine.  I'm waiting on MS but I should be running it in the near future :)

Hey m50 and m42 manifolds have the same spacing/bolt pattern, so you could just remove two of the ports(tubes) and weld it closed, this should be a good solution to your manifold problem.

a gt28rs will make good power with less lag.  GT series turbos > T3

you can find them on ebay pretty cheap too.

Didnt you have like 12.5:1 CR? Getting different pistons?

I personaly think that T3 is al litle bit small for m42 318is , because all the past year i am doing a reaserch because i am going to put a turbo into my 318is... i am going to use a Garrett GT 28/60 , v-mount intercooler , and everything else handmade by me and my friend... ( we are crazy people - we do turbos in our cars - till now we have made 3 cars you will not believe )... for fuel managment i am going to use a " splitsecond additional injector controler for 4 injectors ( it is programmable via laptop , you make a map while you drive  ) with handmade intake ,and 4 extra injectors ( it is better than change the factory injectors with bigger and put a chip into the cpu because you can't make changes anytime you want and you can program it yourselve ) , i will put an oil cooler frontmount... hopefully i will begin my project these days , i will take photos of everything and let you know about everything....

vatos, can the split second kit control ignition??

If not check out the SMT6 unit, it can and will work great on a M42, also you can have the extra injectors work depending on boost, and retard ignition depending on boost as well

Yes, if i lower my compression with a MLS HG it should be around 10.2,though.

vatos p, the 50 trim t3 looks pretty perfect on the m42 when I mapped it on the compressor map.  It should have full boost about 3k if not 2.5k.  Although a t3 would be good for fast spool, if you want huge #'s you prob would want a bigger turbo but the tradeoff is lag...

The turbo just depends on what you plan to do w/ your car and your goals.
