Raised rev limits have two sides to them. The obvious plus of you being able to hold gears longer as needed in certain areas on the track/auto-x course. The disappointing fact of it being useless as the stock or very mildly modded motor isn't necessarily able to use it to full advantage per se.

For those of you with worked motors running piggy backs -- >
For the rest of us -- >

When shifting @ 7200 with my motor I feel it's at it's limit @ WOT and with an extra 200 or so revs I won't be comfortable doing it repeatedly unless the chip shifts the entire curve better than what I have now to make it worthy (and I don't like people who sell stuff without dynos of before and after in general)

My dyno with a Mark D chip (@ the wheels)

Just remember they have different octane ratings in Europe.

Also does no good with higher rev limit if it's not making any more power up there. Very little room for error reving that high imo.

FYI, a friend is getting out of the aftermarket business and there could be a potential GB on aftermarket chip very similiar to Dinan's maps for $30-$40 possibly in the near future.

Ok I´ll re word the question

what´s the max revs the M42 can handle without valve float or any other issues?

I feel my M42 wants to pull all the way to the current 7k revlimit,
with a turbo I could easily make that even farther

Gunni your question was clear before - my post was more generic and you're in the " " category as you have some modifications to the motor. I personally wouldn't get it to rev too much higher without the right recipie on stock internals. Based on what I have seen (and I don't profess to be an expert) the recipie for high revving durable engines involves a lot more than most say i.e. cams, headwork and tuning.

It would be awesome to have a turbo car like yours with a mostly stock internal configuration as a stock comparison basis prior to doing any extra work in search of more power.

well it´s not turbo yet,
by revving higher I need less boost to make higher hp,
I´ll probably just keep it at 7200 since some chips are like that,
I have 0 plans to mod it any further,

I start hopefully, automotive engineering in 8-9months in another country.
so I don´t have alot of time for this and well I still have two S50´s lying around and I´d like to put my money and efforst towards them, if I wasn´t going
