Sorry to hear about your valve leak problem. That's a bummer. If I was you I would find a used head and slap it on. Depending on how much you can get a head for you might be able to get it back on the road for not too much $$$. If there is a pick and pull in vegas you can get one for $49. The bad part is you have to do the job basically twice. I saw a complete head with cams said to be in "great" shape on ebay for $349. They said its install and go.. Then you would need a head gasket kit $120.. and a head bolt kit $40.. So with a little luck and a lot of work maybe around $500? Or, there are a few longblocks on ebay for m $750 to $950? Just a thought... If you can find a pick and pull m42 the complete longblock is only $99!! My local one just crushed 3 e36 318i's with m42's that were complete minus a few small parts. Good luck..Skid

It's back on the road. I let the repair facility rebuild the original head through whatever machine shop they use. Besides the head work, went with eight new exhaust valves and guides, valve stem seals, thermostat, water pump, timing cover gaskets, and had them heli coil two of the valve cover bolt holes on the head.

I might have considered a long block if I got some really bad news once the head came off, but it was in good shape. Prayerfully I'll be good for another 200,000 miles.  :)

After a warranty re-do because of a defective head gasket that caused a coolant leak, plus a thermostat housing replacement (coolant leak), I'm rolling again. So far, so good.
