Greetings,

I'm here in Germany looking at an original E30 alarm system to purchase second hand. The part number for reference is: 82119418333. This part number shows that it is only good for European E30's. However, I'd like to know if anyone out there may have some first-hand knowledge on adapting this "Europe only" alarm into my US 318is? I am trying to search around the internet for other information, but cannot come up with anything. Other than maybe a few subtle differences in the ECU, I don't see where would be other problems with the wiring. I would like to assume that BMW would make this as plug-and-play as possible. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I know I have the US version in a box somewhere, nearly complete. I pulled it from a '91 325i. I don't have any idea of specifics, but they seem pretty standard. IIRC, this one had two relays. If I had to hazard a guess I'd say one cut the yellow/black starter wire from the key switch and the other cut the fuel pump feed wire. Likely it also used a few internal transistors to unlock the doors, beep the horn, etc... It had a few sensors, thin ribbon wiring and was installed above the glove box.

I couldn't test it as it had no remotes. Pretty sure it's the Alpine version?

If I can find it I'll snap a few pics or get that part number. From what I recall, the wiring was kinda/sorta OEM. I'm sure it was spliced in as a dealer installable option.

Thank you for checking. The one that I am looking at here is the Alpine version as well. I don't forsee any drastic differences in the ECU harness from the US version to a European version E30. Aside from some lighting differences because of T�V standards to DOT standards, the rest of the wiring should be straight forward. Unfortunately, I don't have the means to check the wiring of this alarm in person- the sale is on an online German forum only. I suppose I could purchase it and give it a shot with installation. in the e30 I recently purchased there is a factory/OE alpine bmw alarm... yet, there are no remotes for mine either. Is there a way to tell what all the thing is capable of? ie - cutting fuel, keyless entry, etc.

Do they have a tendency to stop working? If not, where can I get a new FOB? lol I would love to utilize factory equipment

I've had bad luck with them. IMHO they were underbuilt, transistors tend to die over the years. Mine had a fuel cut relay and an ignition immobilizer that was signalled by door locks, a tilt switch and what I think was an impact sensor. No key fobs came with the car. It originally had large, ugly square key fob remotes.
