My M42 Fuel Economy and Maintenance Logs
« on: November 27, 2012, 01:12:38 AM »
I finally got around to entering all of the scribbling from the notebook in my glove box onto my site. It has been over a year since the last update lol. Maybe I should spend the next 3-6 months putting all of the pictures and articles up on my site, rather than starting more real projects. That sounds more relaxing, and a LOT less expensive!

Fuel economy plot:

Gas price history in my area:

And the maintenance history. It now includes the new M42. I do need to add in some details about the sound system, though.

Folks that can't access it...can you post the error message? I migrated everything to a different server, so the site IP changed and stuff. It may be that there is an issue with my host's nameservers or something. I assume that the big colorful signature doesn't appear under my posts for you, either?

I am accessing it fine from home, work, my phone and everywhere else I have been in the last 3 months.

DOOOO it!

I am hoping that the red dots on the fuel economy chart pick up substantially over the next year. I think that they are so low because I have been busy "enjoying" my new engine a little too much haha. I could see there being a ~17% hit to mileage just because of the increased displacement, but it should be more than offset by the higher compression and the fact that the combustion chambers and everything are clean and firing more efficiently.

I can access it now. Not sure what the deal was.

How on earth did you manage to almost squeeze 16 gal into your tank

The most I've ever put in was just over 14 gal. I thought our cars came with a 55 L tank (14.5 gal)?

Oh, that was one of those times where I put in 4 or 5 gallons in a hurry and then filled it up the rest of the way when I had time. As long as you don't reset the trip odometer, you'll still get a valid MPG number.

Haha well, I sort of lost some enthusiasm after a little incident with a broken valve spring. MM shipped the engine to their shop, fixed EVERYTHING and even re-did some other stuff just out of paranoia and shipped it back to me at no charge. Not bad considering that the valve springs are sourced from another company, so they get an A++ for service from me. Since then, it has been really good. Runs strong. Lots of tranny rattle, probably due to the 11lb flywheel. The exhaust smells really rich at idle, which is the last thing I am trying to figure out. It could be the old AFM or my wide-band O2 setup, who knows.
