door locks frozen
« on: November 03, 2012, 05:14:47 PM »
i have a 4 door

none of my locks move. all are frozen. 3 out of 4 doors open one wont because the lock is frozen in the locked position. basically all the actuators are stuck in whatever position they were in when the issue occured.

if im not mistaken would this be the central locking module? or a fuse? i havent tried fuses yet..

but basically if i grab any of the lock buttons on the top of the door i cannot move them up or down at all no matter how hard i try without feeling like im gonna break them obviously.

Mine have always been hard to move, but I haven't ever BMW power locks totally frozen up.  I wonder if the central locking module is energizing them closed?  Sometimes the little door lock micro switches lock up in interesting positions, maybe that's the problem?  Any difference between key on or off?

If you get a chance, pull the central lock module (it's in the driver kick panel IIRC) and see if the locks will manually work.

Could also be a simpler problem - maybe the door mechanisms just need lubed up?

lmk what your solution is op.  same thing happened to my 325ic.  I pulled the central lock module and it looked fine.  I remember right before my door locks and trunk froze, the heard either the locking actuators or the central lock work overtime for like 1-2min.  I'm hoping the actuators aren't fucked and frozen in position.

they feel like there seized up really. its weird. it was really sudden too. literally overnight one day i could use them the next i cant even manually move them at all. they wont budge even a bit. like there seized and need to be lubed. idk if a fuse would cause this. do the actuators hold the locks in position and not allow you to move them if they lost power?

So after replacing my cylinder head. Not only do my locks still not work since I havent got around to that, my windows quit. All 4 just like the locks. Luckily there stuck up and my drivers door still opens and I have an alarm in it so I can still drive it around. Is this just bad luck? Or maybe during the head replacement did I forget to plug something back in? Bad ground? Blown fuse? Or am I just so lucky that all my motors and lock actuators need replacement haha

I still havent really looked at my cab for the source of my frozen locks.  I hope its not a case of having to replace the central lock module and all the actuators.

windows what i did was check the fuse. it was fine. checked the switches. they were fine. checked the child safety switch. it was fine. checked the fuse again. it was blown. what the hell right? replaced the fuse. good to go

now my locks. the key i have is WORN OUT so i was afraid to use it. as a last ditch effort after looking everywhere and checking everything else. i thought hey! why dont i try to just unlock it. sure enough my doors were just double locked.... dumbest thing ive ever done.... oh well. fixed now
