Greetings,

I am currently in the beginning process of installing an OEM rear sun shade into my E30. The unit is date correct in that the rear shelf must be cut (originally an OEM rear shelf pre-made with the slit for the sunshade was used) for installation and once installed the little rubber hooks attach to the rubber seal above the rear window.

Some open questions remain and searching this forum as well as the www yields little useful information. For starters, once the rear shelf has been properly cut and the rear shade installed, there must be clips on each end of the sun shade and on the bottom side of the rear shelf to keep the sunshade from dropping as well as keeping it in place when the shade is actually drawn up and attached to the window seal. I have no idea of what bracket is needed to properly install the sun shade. Ideally, I want to keep it all OEM. Secondly, since I must cut my rear shelf, was there a general guide for this, or have people in the past simply eye balled it and dialed it in with a tape measure before cutting?

There are two different reference pages on RealOEM, but looking at the schematic isn't 100% clear to me. Regardless of the parts being "ended" on RealOEM, I will source them one way or another. If you have any experience, please chime in.

I have the same rear sunshade. ITs been a while but I seem to remember looking underneath at the bare cardboard where it was scored for the sunshade? Or I could have just eyeballed it. U need to look at realoem for the hook receptors I purchased these new from the dealer

the one referenced int he first link is a different rear sunshade that just sits on top of the rear parcel shelf.

Sorry I looked on realoem for that years ago. Then found online a pic the bare roof so that I could see where exactly the hook receptors fitted.

Just a small update: When the rear parcel shelf is pulled and flipped upside down, there are two small rectangles that are missing from the actual pressed cardboard, but do not go all the way through the fuzzy grey upholstery. These two rectangles are used to gauge the width of the slit that needs to be cut into the cardboard and all the way through the parcel shelf to accept the rear shade.

I used an aluminum straight edge and a mega sharp razor blade and took my time. Installation was pretty straight forward and the entire process from start to finish took about 15 minutes.

The sun shade has the hooks mounted to it on the left and right as well as a loop for your finger to grab onto to pull it up and over the window, but I do not have any loops or anything to actually keep the sun shade in an up position. I tried to hook the shade into the actual rear window molding where it butts up against the head liner, but that proved to be useless.

Unfortunately, I do not know what else is needed to make this thing work appropriately, and am reluctant to introduce hodgepodge hardware from home depot or something to give the sunshade something to hook up to above the rear window.

Part numbers would be outstanding on what else is needed! Thanks!
